Poll: Going back to patch 2?

It seems that lots of people are complaining about the lag that is caused by the Directplay bug which affects patch 3 BETA.

Problems occur like the never loading bug, extreme lag, etc...

I know the majority demanded the patch 3 BETA at the time...BUT I wonder, don't you think going back to patch 2 would be better then?

1. less lag and problems.
2. people who have great difficulties with this beta can still play other opponents online...

But a disadvantage is that you will miss the great features that are included in the beta patch, such as balance tweaks, observer mode, etc...

Would massively going back to patch 2 be better for the online community? And will you be willing to uninstall the beta patch and have patch 2 installed again?

This seems an interesting poll...I am really interested in what YOU think http://www.veforums.com/smile.gif

Why not the best of both worlds?

Patch 2's networking version (DX7) with the perks and whistles of Patch 3?

Afterall, DirectX is backwards compatible. I had DirectX 8 when I was playing Sacrifice with Patch 2.

I just wish people on this board would back me up on this one (sniff)

Definetly agree with you, microsoft will NEVER and i say NEVER fix that directplay problem, all the games that are relaying on dx7 code working great over the internet but none dx8 work at all!!!Think this is the way to go,what are we losing anyway if we stick with good old and tested(througly)dx7,i know we get stability !!!Back up dan and me guys. And the rest who want this change< http://www.veforums.com/wink.gif

I don't know. There are too many games to play during the meantime, that it doesn't seem worth the effort to go through the hassle.

This idea sounds promising...

why did shiny change to dx8 network code anyway?... what was the promised benefits over dx7??? (i didnt catch this info b4) ...

I've already swiched back to patch2. It is stable and I play multiplayer fine with friends...still get droped sometimes but it's much better than patch 3 beta, and the fps are much better. I'm in full support of this idea.

For the short term, I would agree with going back to patch 2, if that is the consensus of the community. It's going to make playing on-line confusing for a while, until everyone gets on board with this. Newbies in particular will be confused. I say at this point take patch 3 beta off the table, so to speak, and QUICKLY come up with a patch (2.5?) that uses the networking code of patch 2 and the new tweaks and observer mode of patch 3. I would hope that it wouldn't be too hard to do this.
But for the long term the various on-line gaming problems must be solved. If MS is truly the sole culprit here with dx 8, then I would wait until MS releases a version that Shiny can work with. I think we all know that MS never releases defective code.
