I think generally the Army is spending money a little more wisely, marketing-wise this way. TV advertising is cheap (relatively) in middle of the night and during certain times of the days, but unlike Coke, the Army can't just buy ads during these hours. There isn't much incentive to recruit middle-aged housewives or insomiacs. The "demographic" age that want watch stuff like TV major sports coverage, which are usually expensive to advertise on.

And look at free press this is getting. I wonder what Congress will do about "violent games" now?

yep, this is a much more productive way to spend some of their advertising budget. Alot better than pointless adds, atlest there is something of use commin out of it (how much use is unknown yet tho )
Its a step in the right direction. An abstract way of advertising thats actually working. Anyone remember 'cool spot'? 7ups attempt at gaming product placment. At least this is related to gaming, not some cheesy excuse to put 2 completely different things together.

but it also comes to the line about violence coming from violent games.... obviously the army is largly about violence, but do you think they might get any problems from certain organizations about releasing violent games? I mean, of course there will always be violent games, but when its coming from a government orginzation instead of privatly owned company, could it bring some people to start about tax dollars being used for kids to learn about violence and start shootings, etc? i personally dont believe the games lead to violence unless the person playing it was already mentally ill in some way and should be getting help instead of blowing stuff up, but i thought itd be coo to get some other opinions and see what you guys think.

Cool Spot: hehe yeah i remember renting that haha. That was a weird game, much like dougy, but perhaps a bit cooler.(OUCH!!! that was cheap! )

AND.... HOLY SH!T!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Do my eyes deceive me? Did Dougy just say something Intelligible?

On that note: Yeah I figure some people will argue it. I mean, some people argue everything, except how they constantly got high back when. Ever notice that? oh sh!t, i best not get off the subject(dougy knows i'll type forever on that). But yeah so there will be people argueing the gov't about the violence. Then again many people feel the need to blame games on things to make up for their poor parenting jobs. Thats not a cheap shot, just a simple truth. The others will be people wanting to follow precedence(sp?) so that they don't get yelled at for violent stuff.
But also, many others will stay quiet, because there are many people that won't catch on to the amry's scheme to recruit people. So many will stay quiet so that the army can recruit more. Even some of the "blamers" i bet will stay quiet so that some kids join. Especially since 9/11, A lot of people think that we need more people in the military, so those that have smarts, will know to not argue this one. If they do, then some of the dumber people will then be TOLD of the scheme, and thus play the game with the thought in mind, "Its only a a game, Its only a game, I won't join, I won't Join". Instead of just playin' it, then thinking... "hmm this is the army?. COOL!! and they pay for school? Wow, this is great!"

Well thats my thoughts on the matter. I for one will not argue it, I think its a very good tactic that they are using.

(if i have a typo... oh well, i don't wanna re-read this until i wake.)

Ironically, I think that's the point. "Smarts" part that is. Hardcore gamers are not exactly -- urrrmmm -- in the best shape. But they aren't exactly recruiting for Special Forces. They'll whip you into "good enough" shape to be a standard rifleman, then train you to repair tanks or something like that. Face it, with all the "just-out-of-high-school" and "jail-or-Army" soldiers in the Army, they have find some way to get some "smarts" amoung their ranks. Hey someone has to cook.

They'll probably make it so there isn't any blood, and land it a T rating, like MOA. That way it will be largely overlooked, even though you are shooting and killing people, because there are so many GTAIII's and SOF's to bitch about.
