I wonder how they are going to limit non-US citizens. I read you should be able to download it off the site.

Well I'm not sure how some sites do it, but I do know that some only let people of certain countrys in. But if it is for download, then it would be available on many sites that they won't be able to control.

I didn't read into the site much, but all I recall seeing was that pre-orders, and more specifically, snail-mail packages, were limited to the US.

You must be over 13 years of age and complete the required information above to receive your free America's Army game CD pack via mail. Offer limited to U.S. residents only.
Could be wrong though.

I wonder what ELSE you get if you fill out your address. Maybe the package is personally delivered by an Army recruiter.

Here's a quote from the official site:

The Army will distribute America’s Army for *free* in response to requests at America's Army and GoArmy.com, through distribution partners that include leading computer game magazines, at Army events, at recruiting stations, and through internet download. The game is rated “T” for Teen by the Entertainment Software Ratings Board.

"through internet download" - looks like us foreigners will be able to get it anyway - and, if not, i'll just but the import PC Gamer from the US

I would bet this is coming out of the "advertising" budget of the Army. $7 million buys about... oh... maybe 15-30 primetime ads. That just means a few less "Army of One" ads.

So you need to think of it an another way of advertising. They probably get better returns on this game. (returns = recruitments & public relations) It's pretty smart, it is probably part of the Army's new marketing strategy. I bet they practically sponspored the "Combat Missions" show (my favorite reality show)

Exactly.... they have been puttin their army of one adds on gamer sites, this is the next step for that avenue of advertising, they see the gaming community as a good source of recruits, and i cant blame them with the new found lust most have for realism combat games

Yeah, I guess you guys are right. I never really knew how much it costs to produce games vs. commercial costs. Either way, free games make me happy
