T1 is usually meant for schools/businesses, unless your name is Richie Rich.
For home use it comes down to ADSL v.s. Cable. From all the reviews I've read... Cable wins all the time. With ADSL, you've got the attenuation factor (if you're too far from the central office). With the cable you got the sharing bit.
It's up to you, really. It's your buck. If you don't like one, you can always cancel and try the other.
Unless you have BIG bucks forget about T1. If you are near a main line you might get a good deal on a fractional T1, but even that isn't too cheap. yes T1 is the best, but it costs much more than any cable modem or DSL. On the upside, if you are near a ?node? you will save a lot on money on the install but will still have a hefty monthly... but you can make a little side money dishing out some private accounts to help pay it.
Anyone out there who actually pays for a full T1 just for games.. well at almost a grand a month you can't get any more commited than that! Now that's Hardcore!

I will try to put an end to this thread as best as i can. Here are the differences in the most common speeds for DSL/CABLE/T1 services. I hope it helps anyone with questions.. Here Goes..
DSL Service usually starts at 384kbps and peeks at around 7.1mbit. Most isp/telco rarely go that high, so a figure of 1.5mbit downstream is the most common speed. DSL is a shared line is a sense that your connection is tied into your isps backbone, T3, OC3 etc, But it is NOT shared in a way that cable is.
Cable service speeds generally average between 500kpbs and up to 5mbit downstream speeds, some average even faster. The downside with cable is your connection is tied in with everyone else on your node, which could be hundreds of homes. This usually doesn't pose a problem because most isp's are fit to upgrade if speeds drop.
T1 Service, Frame Relay etc etc. are known to be used by business and corporations that need a high speed dedicated line. A T1 line is 1.54mbit up/down. It is not shared and a pure dedicated line. It costs Hundreds of $ a month and not for an average home user. (Remember also that T1's were available way before DSL, and most cable)
CONCLUSION: Cable is still generally the fastest means of internet service available to home users. DSL may be a dedicated line that isn't shared, but the speeds don't generally match that of cable. Even at peak times Cable users usually surpass speeds of DSL owners. I myself can vouch for that, i have cable service myself here in NJ with optonline, and my speeds are 3-5x that of 1.5mbit dsl service and also costs less then half of what dsl does. Simply put, if cable is in your area I would give that a try first.
One thing that made me not choose cable, is @home (our provider) limits upload speeds to 128k. This is actually pretty darn slow considering you can upgrade dsl to match up and down, but not cable. I know a lot of people don't care because they just download and don't upload, but if you plan on running a web server, or hosting net games upload speed will be a huge bottle neck.

Cable is the one you will find cheaper. Cable can but won't go faster than a T1. Of the 3, ADSL has the slowest capabilities, but overall will be faster than cable because your not sharing bandwidth with everyone around you. T1 would prove fastest of all as long as it's YOUR t1 and not being shared by a company or that you at least have full bandwidth at the time your using it. Cable runs around 40 bucks a month, sometimes cheaper. Adsl starting from 40 to 130? Different package deals. T1's i believe are 960 install, and around 600 monthly for the service. Hope that helps, if any of you feel my information is inaccurate please let me know, i just woke up so it's possible i could have said something invalid.
For Whoop A$$, a T3 is generally over 20 times that of a t1 speed wise. I believe it runs 30 to 40 thousand install, and around 12 to 15 service monthly. ATM is near the speed of a t3 but i think it might be faster. I don't know much about it but ATM is not used for a home enviroment anyways, or college or anything.
