As a veteran, I am outraged at the events of today. There will be Hell to pay for any group/faction that is associated with this attack.

My prayers and thoughts go out to the families that are dealing with the loss of life that the attack has brought.

Many people do not realize the magnitude of what just happened today. But the attack on Pearl Harbor will not even compare to the loss of life that today's events have impacted us with. Our problem is that we have no country as of yet to declare war against. Those responsible will find out that American pride is not the only thing that makes ammends(Cruise missles and ground forces will).

I hope all that we will find the people responsible and be dealt with swiftly.

I, too, want to add my sympathy and condolances to all who have been affected by this tragic event. But then again, I guess we all have. My wife, who had planned to go visit her family next week, is now afraid to get on a plane. America has suddenly become vulnerable.
Pearl Harbor is no comparison. At least then we had a nation to declare war on. We now have only our anger and grief. More lives were probably lost today than in Pearl Harbor as well.
Speculation will run rampant as to who is responsible. Like most everyone else, my first instinct is to blame middle eastern terrorists, especially in light of the infuriating celebrations being held there in honor of the loss of American lives. However, I would remind myself and everyone else, that we thought the same after the Oklahoma City bombing, and it turned out to be Americans to blame. I hope that no harsh action be taken just for the sake of taking action until the facts are truly known. But whoever did this makes McVeigh look like Mr. Rogers, and I hope that every individual who had a part in this is brought to justice and made to pay with their lives.
What can we do now? Although it hardly needs be said, I hope that we will all pray to whatever god we each believe in for the families and friends of the lost, that those still alive in the wreckage can be found, that the perpetrators are found, and that when they are that they will be brought to swift justice without further loss of innocent life. For those of us present who do not believe in god(and I know there are a number here), please keep the victims in your minds and hearts. I hope we as a nation will honor their memory and mourn their loss, especially the hundreds of rescue workers who were still in the buildings evacuating as many people as possible when they fell.
I also hear that blood supplies are extremely low, and that donors are desperately needed. I can't give for medical reasons, but I hope that all who can, will.
I've talked long enough for now. God bless America.

Just received a call about an hour or two ago telling me that my uncle, who lives in New York, is ok. Thats a relief.

On the subject of war: war is not a good thing, and I sure as hell hope that the criminals can be brought to justice without more people dying in some war. Not only that, but I'm 18 years old, and if we go to war and reinstate the draft, then there's a chance that I could be slogging around desert mountains in the middle east (or wherever the war would be) being shot at, and to be honest, I don't really want to do that.

Oh well, I just hope that when they finally catch the people who are responsible for this, they ignore the 8th amendment and pull a 1984 on their asses up until the point where they genuinely love America and think that all terrorists are horrible people just like us. Then we should turn them inside out over the course of a year while having them remain in perfect conciousness able to feel all the pain as it happens.

As far as the loss of human life is involved, laughing is the _last_ thing that comes to my mind.

Take care,

Actually, laughing is just another response that some people have when facing really bad situations like this one. Its not that they mean anything by it other than that they're trying to cope with the magnitude of what's happened. Also, what jarbe said is a proverb which basically means that whoever has the last word in an argument or the last blow in a fight "laughs longest" because the other side is beaten and cannot fight back.

This is by far the most disgusting thing I have ever seen.

George will want to impress people since hes the new president, and what better way to impress people then with revenge.

I know that it would be overkill, but I think that we should flatten the whole middle east, screw the innocent civilians, we must kill them all, so this will NEVER happen again. Send in the nukes, I dont care, I want them all dead. All the middle east is good at is starting wars. Palestinians claim to be responsible, yet I'm sure iraq and Afghanistan are too.

I just want to say a prayer to the thousands killed.

They kill thousands of innocents, so in retaliation we kill millions of innocents. Who, then, is the bigger terrorist? A couple planes crashing into buildings is nothing compared to what you're suggesting we unleash upon an entire region of the planet. Think it through a little.
