Max payne engine looks Some people complain about max Payne engine not looking very good. Certain effects look bad or the textures are not that great. One key factor on how well MP looks depends on the video card you are you using. I’ve read professional reviews that range from saying the texture looks awful, to they are near photo-realistic. Guys comment on the games graphic even when they are using a voodoo base card that doesn’t do 32bit color. Or reviewing it on a system that doesn’t meet the recommended. Well duh?!? It’s not going to look that great as it does on a 1Ghz + with 256+ ram and a Nvidia 64meg card. IF you can’t turn all the sliders to the max in MP, you really have no substance to your claims that the “GAME’S” textures and effects look bad. IMO the textures well not photo realistic, look pretty damn close. The textures on those gritty hotel walls were amazing. And when the light shined on enemies, they seemed real. |
Most detailed game I have ever played. The second time thru I really took the time to notice and its ssuuwwwwwweeeeet! |

Yes, it would ruin the sales hype to say this game sucks for ninety-nine percent of gamers. Sure, in three years time the average machine may be able to play Max Payne in its long forgotten faded glory. But, we're not living in three years time, we're in the here and today. Stop smoking astroturf, it's bad for you. http://www.veforums.com/tongue.gif ------------------ This Forum is your DOOM! [This message has been edited by CultureShock (edited 08-17-2001).] |
He's right, the first time you play you are more into the killing.. the second time you take in more of the detail... I also set more of my settings to high.... runs sweet and I have a pIII celeron 533 |
I run it at 1024x768 with all the sliders left to how they were already set up, and it looks pretty damn good, unless close up on the models faces. I've got an Athlon 900mhz, with Geforce 2 |
Culture; Do you spend all your time on these forums trashing MP? Give me an EXACT list of your problems with MP. And post your specs too. And don't start with bugs, because the bugs are a very small minority. Most people that don't have bugs aren't posting here, so it seems like everyone has them. |
canbiko; "Do you spend all your time on these forums trashing MP?" Who said I trashed it? I've never trashed it. How it compares to the case I present is another story. If anything, Max Payne trashes itself. I've even praised Remedy for some of the work they've done. Very slick,... for what it's worth. Still, they could do better, eh? http://www.veforums.com/wink.gif Rather than everyone screaming "stop the nasty" whenever I open my trap, how about reading the arguments. They're far less hysterical than your supposing. In fact they're quite sober, if you have the gumption to pass through the anti-nitwit barrier. I haven't even started on the meat of the content or the engine yet. http://www.veforums.com/eek.gif "Give me an EXACT list of your problems with MP." very good gamelooks like kingpin and project igi .... |
I played KingPin again yesterday, and the textures are less than half the resolution in MP. All "0ld" games looks blurred compared to Max. And no, you don't need a fast machine. But you need a new graphics card. 64 mb ram, or 32 on a faster computer will make it the most photorealistic game to date. Anyone who have played the most recent games, can agree with that, unless they are on wood-alcohol. My sepecs are an old P3 450, Radeon64 ddr. I get around 30 (from 15 to 55) fps with all on max in 1162x864x32 bit. That's not bad at all on my slow computer. When I upgrade to 800 mhz, I could possibly get 50 fps. This is a matter of fact. |
Better hurry and make that 1152x864x32 before some maniac madman corrects me http://www.veforums.com/smile.gif |
