Thanks fellas, let's keep 'em coming everyone else. http://forums.voodooextreme.com/smile.gif

Also, what's your next upgrade and when?

Oh yeah, here's my main specs (I have to use a few different machines).

CPU:Athlon 650 (FIC motherboard).

RAM:256mb

VIDEO:ELSA Erazer x2 (32 mb ddr geforce)

AUDIO: SB Live Platinum w/live drive (very cool for audio recording).

HD: 25gb (?? manufacturer).

MON:19" CTX (cheap, but nice).

OS:win98

WHATEVER:CDRW 24x4x4, DVDRAM (kinda slow, but very nice storage), Elsa Revelator wireless 3d glasses (AMAZING for Sacrifice!!!)

Note: anyone considering a vid upgrade, the geforce cards make a _very_nice_ impact on Sacrifice's framerate.

Although, with the NV15 and Voodoo 5000 coming in less than a month ... http://forums.voodooextreme.com/biggrin.gif

BTW I also plan on setting up a p2 300 w/TNT1 at home for playtesting. Just to make sure I don't get too carried away adding detail. http://forums.voodooextreme.com/smile.gif

Video: VERY likely will be a Voodoo5 5500, I was impressed with the FSAA, but I'll wait and see what NVidia has on the table... Having a hardware site, I'll be able to test both though http://forums.voodooextreme.com/cool.gif

OS: I'll likely upgrade to WinME when it is released, IF it is faster and more stable. I am NOT worried about the user-friendly stuff they are adding.

RAM: I want to replace the cheap CAS3 PC100 SDRAM I have... I can't get to 150 MHz FSB with this crap http://forums.voodooextreme.com/mad.gif

Same here, all my ram is pc133 even though I do not need it, but it is good to have. pc133 SDRAM is overall a better memory to have, and when mobo come out( I am not certain if any have been released yet) for Slot A that support pc133 i'll be upgrading.

Okay I've been wanting to ask this, isn't it odd, that the most important piece of hardware for a computer, the Mainboard is also one of the most inexpensive?

I guess it's a good thing.

HEHEHHEE

yeah true..i never thought of it that way.

I got Asus p3b-f.

the problem was..i should have waited to get a new pc..i got it in november (and a few parts in december)..should have waited this summer. AFter the DDR and ram..i couldn't afford to get a coppermine or athlon 700+ cpu which is what i wanted...

now i am stuck with p3-500. Once iget a job (still looking) i will save some for schoool and rrsp..the rest i will try to upgrade.

Sparhawk: Slot-A mobo with 133 Bus: ASUS have had the K7V series of 133 RAM bus and 200 FSB. The only thing is that it uses the VIA chipset. I would recomend it and I like the VIA chipset. My machine has the PentiumIII Cu version of this mobo and the K7V got very good reviews when it was released. See http://www.tomshardware.com for more.

StarFyre: I would imagine that mobo (Being ASUS) could set the Processor:RAM speeds at a 3:4 ratio so that the PC133 would be at 133mhz while the processor was at 100. My ASUS certainly has that option (P3V4X).

Sunama: Adding detail will NOT be a problem.

Any of the maps we ship with the game should run just fine on most of the machines mentioned in this thread ('sept the ones < than 300mhz and such).

However, you WILL see dramatic visual improvements, even on those maps, up to prolly a 1.5ghz CPU w/NV15 or equivalent.

Moreover, the level creation tool will ship with the game. There are virtually no restrictions on what folks can place in their own maps.

This practically guarantees that folks will be creating maps that will FAR, FAR outpace even the mightiest machines that will be available for quite some time.

I wouldn't be surprised at all if it takes a 3ghz CPU + NV25 to really max Sacrifice out in the most detailed levels possible w/tons of creatures everywhere (even then, I'm not so sure). http://forums.voodooextreme.com/smile.gif

Still more powerfull machines will simply continue to drive the FPS up.

God only knows what kind of machine it would take to run Sacrifice with absolute maximum structure, creature, widget & FX density, w/all items at max detail @ 2048x1280x32bit @ > 100FPS w/3d glasses!

If you only knew what the editor will really allow if pushed to the max, you would know just what an absolutely insane prospect I just outlined. http://forums.voodooextreme.com/biggrin.gif

I selected and put together all of these, me and my dad are going to upgrade to a athlon 800mhz when the price drops and soon as a good kx133 board comes out that has a ISA slot stupid Asus k7v lol for our isa modems.

Vidio card upgrade will be either a Geforce, Geforce2 GTS, Radeon 256, and just maybe a V5 6000, only reason im considering that becuase of the muscle those four chips make, when one of those chips are alone they just plain suck any ways and your still only useing 32mb per chip, put 4 geforce2 gts on a board then you have something lol, hopefully alot of people will buy a v5 for its fsaa so 3dfx makes enuff money to make something better to compete.

this is for Karidith, i read your oringal post where you said you were gonna upgrade to a p166 with 32mb of ram and i didnt know if you were jokeing or not.

There is no way you can upgrade that pc of yours at least not to my knowledge that would be worth any thing now adays, If money is tight and you want to upgrade i can help you out and tell you what parts to get for a new pc (you would need some one to put the parts together though) but it usely turns out in a quailty machine when you select teh parts
