How Will It Run?

From what I've read, Max Payne is a great game (but a little expensive $70.00 in Canada). Just wondering how it will run on my computer...please be very detailed...like what will I have to adjust exact details and resolution and decals etc. to?
I have a:
Pentium 3 800MHz
128 MB Sdram
32 MB TNT 2 M64
And one more thing...could u guys suggest any cheap upgrades to improve performance, if you think I need to?
Thanks a lot; congrats on a great game Remedy.

i think you should be able to get almost full grafix outta this game in 16 bit color and textures. Some cheap upgrades could be either get some more memory or get a Geforce2 MX($50 hey it's cheaper than max payne!) since your video card isn't that good(I have one I should know)

level geometry low
level tex medium
other tex medium

the rest on medium or
high after taste.

It's a matter of how much bulletholes and garbage you want. And of course, 32 bit if you want eyecandy for frames. Steer and serve chilled. http://www.veforums.com/smile.gif Oh, and a fistful of RAM would do much.

i think he could run it at almost full cause i know someone with 1ghz ~390MB(i forgot how much exactly) and a TNT2 M64 and he runs it at full grafix except anti-aliasing(the TNT2 M64 doesn't support it) even anisotropic enabled at 1024x768x32 and 32bit textures

Sure thing, Die. But then he would need that fistful of ram. 128 is less than $40 last I checked, maybe less.

I am having no problems at all running MP torked all the way up and my computer is a 450, pentium III. It's a little slow loading, but once I'm in a scene, it works great. The guys at EB were telling me to not even bother buying it, because it would not be playable on my system!

I exceed the recommended RAM, and have an excellent video card, so maybe that's why?

GearBox August 11th, 2001 08:45 PM

Right on. I don't have more than a P3 450 myself. But I got ram.

Systemram and videoram is THE DEAL. That's because of all those nifty textures in there.

i got a 500mhz 128MB TNT2 M64 16MB 100mhz FSB with ~930 3dmarks at 800x600x16 and run max payne in all low except projectile limits high(hey i like those shells) object detail med/high and material variations high Bilinear at 640x480x16 getting an average of 25 FPS(sucks) when just sitting around with no other characters on screen. I should be bringing the RAM up to 256 MB, how good should it run then? Hopefully atleast 25 FPS in a high action scene with some shells(hey atleast i get ~75 FPS in the graphic novel)

I have almost the same system you do, only mine is a PIII 700. Same vid card & ram...

I play with all settings on Max, no problems whatsoever http://www.veforums.com/smile.gif

The short answer my friend is, no one knows how it will run ,or whether it will run on your set up.

So my advice to you is, save yourself a lot of grief and try before your buy (or at least, buy it somewhere that you can take it back if it don't work).

The rest of us are stuck waiting for Remedy to produce a new patch. But they have been strangely silent on that issue, and we're beginning to wonder if this product is going to get any good tech support.

dude...i can run max payne wit NO SLOWDOWNS on a P3-550, 256mb RAM and an 8mb Voodoo3-2000 (on-board vid) at 800x600 with all settings on medium....but i can only get 875 3dmarks on 640x480!
I guess 3dmark isnt as accurate as we all want it to be!
so go figure...

happy max payne-ing http://www.veforums.com/biggrin.gif
