Master of Orion II

I'm just wondering, do we have any other Masters of Orion here? =p

Yes, I still play that game every once in a while. The graphics are somewhat dated, but the gameplay still is fun. I also tried MOO3 once, but didn't like it at all.

You lent someone your MOO2 disk! :lulz:

I never do that. I'll do a complete install to the hard drive, but i'm keeping the CD. It's mine I tell you, MINE! ;)

Anyway, I was wondering. How do you guys usually build your early ships?

I'm just wondering, because before I had always been going for mass drivers and then constantly refitting with the latest tech that I could get my hands on but last game I played (on impossible) the AI came at me so early I was deploying ships with nukes and I made a discovery that I hadn't made before.

The nuclear missile is actually absurdly powerful for how early you get it. After you research the next couple of levels you get the MIRV option on it, which means it dishes out fractionally more damage than the Zeon missile. I've been wiping the ells, dragons ameba's and crystals, Antaran ships and even zortium armoured titans with a missile volley from a single battleship and it usually takes me a lot longer than one turn to kill those sort of enemies with later weapons like the Graviton beam or the Gauss cannon.

It's only taken me about 15 years to work that one out. ;)

But yeah, how do you guys build your ships?

When things got difficult I usally just built lots of cheap ships with boarding parties, then got one of the commanders who gives a bonus to boarding fights and tried to take over some enemy ships.

Sadly, I have never played MoO2. Galactic Civilizations 2 and Space Empires V are fairly similar in gameplay and have improved graphics if anyone's interested.

Gal Civ & Space empires still don't hold a candle to MoO2.

Players who love strategy games will go nuts for Master of Orion II. Its detailed play options, random encounters, multiplayer options, and customizing capabilities are everything that the hard-core veteran dreams of. high quality product that blends tactics, strategy and management into an accessible and playable game just watch out for the appearance of any latent megalomaniac tendencies.
