Direct x 8 error

i'm having a error message after the game is installed sayin somthing like , Direct x cannot find Direct x adapter or somthing like that can anyone plz help me , i'm playing on a Pentiem 400 , 192meg of ram , with a 16meg Monster Diamond 2 video card
