No Subscription Fee - DUST 514 will operate on a micro-transaction model.
Assuming I meet the minimum requirements, I'd definitely follow this. I thought it looked like EVE as soon as I saw it, and then I read it was an offshoot of it. The only thing I wonder about is what network performance will be like. The last fps MMORPG I played was Face of Mankind, and the combat was pretty bad due to poor hit detection and general lag.
PlanetSide didn't have the best network performance either, but it did improve over time as their tech team found out how to actually fix the servers. I hope the micro-transactions wont be too extreme.
I used to play EVE Online quite a bit, and hey, whaddaya know, CCP is behind this title as well. If it's anything like EVE is, it'll be very involving and definitely addicting. I do wonder how the commerce system will work... I mean, EVE has it's own, living breathing (and functioning!) economy.
It'll certainly be interesting to see how this one turns out.
I think Dust will be great but it will rely on how CCP markets it. These are the guys who run EVE, which is an MMO that mostly get's around by word of mouth. If they want Dust to take off, they need to talk about it a lot more.
Also, people are unnecessarily freaking out about the micro-transactions because, so far, we've only seen the model used by terrible, free Asian MMO's where you buy the best stuff possible. Dust is coming from CCP, the guy's who made EVE Online, and a player run economy should be a very dominant feature in Dust, especially if they plan to make it interact with EVE Online. Micro-transactions may just be limited to EXP boots and the like, small things that help you but don't hinder the other players. But we really don't know until they announce it.
I remember discussing this with some other people. It looks interesting, especially if they can manage to make interaction between Dust and EVE a smooth one.
Visually its stunning. I hope to see some gameplay vids soon.
