PC Gamer's GOTY Awards. And the winner is .....

.... not Sacrifce ..... RTS of the year went to Red Alert 2 .... Sac wasn't even mentioned in the runners up section or anywhere else .... this is quite odd when one considers the fact that Sac's PC Gamer review was 90%, while Red Alert 2's score was only 85%.

It's very dissappointing when a game like RA2 that uses an ancient engine, and does NOTHING to move the genre forward, can beat out ridiculously fresh and innovative game like Sacrifice for GOTY. With each new issue of PCG I lose more and more respect for it.
At least there was a cool new Sacrifice Ad that immediately followed the GOTY section ;^")

To be fair I do agree with it's overall GOTY pick of Deus Ex .. but still ...Red Alert 2?? That is just several different kinds of wrong.

You know what our thoughts are!

You are on a Sac-Forum, and you know every Sac-Gamer will hate C&C series....

I don't think they will necessarily hate the C&C series .... but your right .. I doubt I will find to much sympathy For PC Gamer awarding RA2 best RTS of 2000 in these forums .... ;^")*

Is this the american version?
cos the american PCG is not as well-respected as the british one ('tis a fact).

The british one hasn't done the awards thingy yet, but they loved Sacrifice.

Smurph February 3rd, 2001 11:52 AM

You do realize that the EIC of PC Gamer(USA) happens to be a Brit right??? His name is Rob Smith. His influence is one of the biggest reasons why RA2 was RTS of the year.

When he was at PCXL, he gave Half-LIfe an 11! out of 10 stars stating "Xen alone is worth the money". He also gave Quake 3 a 10 and "stands by that review" today. He also predicted that Daikatana would be GOTY.

Maybe PC Gamer(UK) is more well respected because there is an American EIC running that magazine. Heheh ... I don't know if this is true or not, but it sure would be funny if it was ...... ;^")*

I'm not syaing to diss Sacrifice, but the Engine is not everything, alot of games have low-end engines, yet are still very addictive. But RA2 was seriously annoying, especially since it had really bad multiplayer support.

This is Funny

Did you know that from the Dune 2 engine cam C&C. Westwood stated Red Alert had a new engine but it was still the same engine with minor enhancments. Along comes Tib Sun and Westwood stated a new engine, but it was still the original engines with just cosmetic enhancments (bad ones at that). So now we are at Red Alert 2, 7 years after Dune 2 and the Engine still lives on.

And out of all the games run with that engine. The engines original game is the best..... by far.

And most of Westwoods games suck arse now.
