Error ffffbff3 processing chunk ?
 
Hi,

Love Sacrifice but after playing for about 10 mins I get this error.

Error ffffbff3 processing chunk 'Slsf' of type 'SXSK'

The errror code is always the same, the chunk and type are usually different http://www.veforums.com/frown.gif

This error chucks me outta the game as well making playing the game annoying http://www.veforums.com/frown.gif

Ok.. any idea?.. my machine setup is as follows..

AMD Athlon 800
ABIT KT7 Raid M/B
Prophet Ge Force 2 GTS 64mb (Herucles)
256mb of ram (pc133 cas-2)
60gb hdd (ata 100)
SB Live player 1024.
Windoze ME

As far as im aware I have updated all the drivers, also I've tried different texture resolution, still no joy http://www.veforums.com/frown.gif

I think this might be a sound error. Get the latest patch for the game from http://www.sacrifice.net . If that doesn't fix it, run dxdiag, save your info to a text file and post it here. I'll take a look at it when I come in Monday.

all drivers on my system are current.

It is a SOUND problem....

Managed to cure it by (re)installing the latest drivers for my Soundblaster live player and then in Sacrifice selecting
DIRECTSOUND3D 7 +SOFTWARE -FULL HRTF
provider.

The drivers I used were the windows ME ones, filename was SBLWMEDRV.EXE size 5.19Mb. I downloaded them from creatives site. (www.sblive.com I think!)

Ever since i've done that it hasnt given me that error at all http://www.veforums.com/biggrin.gif. Still using Direct X 8.

Hope this info helps the rest of you...

I have been getting similar errors at various times throughout the game as well. Sound error eh? Hmmm, I have a Live Value with Win ME OS. I've been using the EAX2 driver in the game. I guess I should try a different selection? I run a surround sound system too so I have "surround" selected as well. Sounds like an issue for the next patch http://www.veforums.com/smile.gif

I've got the same error, and I downloaded the latest patch for my sblive!, yet i still get the same error=( any thoguhts on how to fix it?

I think this is actually an error to do with your swap file. To successfully run Sacrifice, you need a big swap file (add up all the files in the data and data\local folders, and this is at least how much you'll need. You should be letting windows manage your virtual memory (if you don't know how to change this then you're probably OK, since this is the default). You'll also need a good deal of space on drive C for this swap file.
Finally, the swap file needs to be non-fragmented (a drive defrag should help), but if you have trouble running after this, please try a fresh reboot before running the game again, because simply running windows can fragment this file if you're short on drive space.
Anyway, hope that helps,

Ok, chances are your swapfile is currently set to the C: drive. To see if the problem is swap-file or memory related, follow these steps: (if your swapfile is on another drive, replace "d:" in steps 1 and 2 with "c:".)
1. Defrag your d: drive
2. Go to the virtual memory control panel, set a min and a max swapfile of 400mb, and make sure it is on the d: drive.
3. Click start, go to run, type msconfig, and hit enter. Click "selective startup", and uncheck the box that says "Process autoexec.bat" and "Process Config.sys". Click on the Startup tab in the upper right hand corner of the window, and uncheck everything in the window except for scanregistry, systray, and load power profile. Click OK and let it reboot.

If you still have problems, post your current dxdiag info in a new thread. If you need any of these steps further explained, let me know.

If you have a VIA based MB for that system, I would strongly recommend the new drivers for their boards, esp those relating the the AGP port. You should see an increase in stability and performance.

Thanks for the tip! After installing the new VIA 4in1 drivers I've gone from an occasional crash (but still playable) game to one that won't even start. The best I could do was get music and blank screen. Everyone rush out and install the VIA 4in1's right away!

Ok, I've since reinstalled Sacrifice and so far it looks like the game is loading ok, I just have no visuals!! I can hear the music, and I can hear the menu sounds (I belive its where the CD key is entered) but of course all I can do is exit with the escape key...BECAUSE I CAN'T SEE ANYTHING.

Ok, some new info, I've since went into my bios and enabled AGP SW 1 (there are two selection that are similar, I enabled them both)or something like that and I now have visuals back. BUT after playing for probably about 10 minutes I got the same error (as everyone appears to be getting in this topic)

Apostle: just so I understand your current situation properly..
1. The 4 in 1 drivers got the game working better, but not perfect
2. Upon uninstalling, reinstalling, you got sound but no video
3. Changing AGP options in the BIOS gave you video again, but the game is very unstable.

If this describes your current situation, then please post the patch you installed the game to (by default, it's "c:\Program Files\Shiny\Sacrifice"). Also, post your current DXDIAG info.

If I misundersdood your current situation, please give me a step by step recount, so I can try to figure what is happening.

Ok, here's a step by step recount:

1) Installed Sacrifice for the first time - it seemed to run ok but crashed on a fairly regular basis with the "error ffffbff3 processing chunk..." message

2)Updated VIA chipset drivers to latest 4in1 - Sacrifice didn't really run at all. Sometimes I would get sound but no picture, other times I would get a blank screen, no sound a hard lock up

3)Reinstalled Sacrifice - after trying to run the game several times I got more of the same (refer to step 2)

4)Went into Bios and enabled two options for AGP - Now I'm back to step one

I'm running Win ME on a 667 P3, 256MB RAM, VIA motherboard/chipset, Geforce 2 GTS (3D Prophet), and a soundblaster Live (value)

Hmmm... which type of SB Live do you have? I think that driver version is for a specific model, and if you have the wrong driver in place that could be causing it. If not, there could be corrupt files on the disk that were copied over during the install. You can try a clean install or email me for a disk exchange.

Yeah I have this same problem but with only one level, James 3. Think it may just be a corrupt file from the CD or the transfer process, cuz rest of levels work alright.

Though I do have similiar AMD 900, SBLIVE, VIA motherboard with new 4.25 drivers.

Played through the game several times so its no big deal. Thanks.

Well one more update before I crash: I've just played through several "levels" of the game, almost 6 hours straight and not a single crash. The last thing I did was up my virtual memory to 256 min and max, which is the same amount of RAM I have in the machine. Of course I defraged the drive after but that's it. So could this have been a memory issue all along? I don't know if anyone can answer that for certain but anyway, so far so good. If I start getting errors again you can be sure I'll be back http://www.veforums.com/smile.gif

Heh I was just about to mention the memory problem. In your Dxdiag info, the page file info lists 128Mb used, 25 Mb free. The free portion should really be a couple hundred Mb. This game makes heavy use of virtual memory (no other way it could handle so much sound on a base system!)...
Anyhow if you have anymore problems, try freeing up more space on your pagefile drive (C: likely). Glad to hear you're up and running...
