Well one more update before I crash: I've just played through several "levels" of the game, almost 6 hours straight and not a single crash. The last thing I did was up my virtual memory to 256 min and max, which is the same amount of RAM I have in the machine. Of course I defraged the drive after but that's it. So could this have been a memory issue all along? I don't know if anyone can answer that for certain but anyway, so far so good. If I start getting errors again you can be sure I'll be back

Heh I was just about to mention the memory problem. In your Dxdiag info, the page file info lists 128Mb used, 25 Mb free. The free portion should really be a couple hundred Mb. This game makes heavy use of virtual memory (no other way it could handle so much sound on a base system!)...
Anyhow if you have anymore problems, try freeing up more space on your pagefile drive (C: likely). Glad to hear you're up and running...
