Single player question: alliance w/ Gods

Ok... I've read in a few places that in single player, you should go into Pyro's realm before the 4th quest. Well, I didn't and subsequently have lost the chance to learn some of his spells as when I enter his realm, it's only to do battle... I stuck w/ Perceph, and James' realms as they seemed to me to be the easiest to learn on. Am I stuck starting over??? or is there a way to learn the fire spells later on as everyone says you gotta have them to defeat the gods and demon at the end of the game???
