Looking to buy a game-help? Hi, I hope this doesn't belong in the spam box, but anyway: I am growing out of the graphics and low realism of Star Wars: Jedi Academy, and I am looking for a game that keeps me busy for a very long time, is adventurous and covers a lot of nature, looks semi-realistic and has a good physics engine. I also would like to eventually be able to mod it. Oblivion seems to fit that description very well, but I was wondering if anyone else had any better games in mind. I am also a Christian, so the game I buy must have no nudity at all and little to no language if I am to buy it. My computer specs are: Socket 478 P4 3 Ghz CPU, 1 GB 3200 RAM, and a Nvidia FX5500 256 MB graphics card. Thanks for reading this and bearing with me. Replies would be apreciated. :) |
Re: Looking to buy a game-help? You can try Prince of Persia : two thrones. But theres quite a short story there with no multiplayer, but if you can get it for 20-30 bucks its pretty worth it in my opinion. (Linear plot/storyline, Awesome ways to engage enemies. Great graphics, enough to distract you from physics) -OR- Tribes Vengeance, if you meant realistic by non-fantasy too, this MAY make some sense as it has modern architecture and technology. As long as your not so pessimistic. (Not much physics but enough to keep you busy with certain features. If you can get it cheap, it is recommended) -OR- Half life 2, you should be able to play it fine~ I had a Radeon X300 and could play it smoothly at all low(some medium) so you shouldn't have any problems playing it. P.S. it looks great even at low-medium graphics. (Not much wall/obstacle breaking physics but the others are pretty fine, great graphics, great storyline, enough to keep you busy for awhile, even better if you decide to get Episode 1 & 2) |
Re: Looking to buy a game-help? They look interesting, thanks for that info! I have downloaded the HL2 demo and I can run it on full graphics with a good framerate but it crashes occasionally. I don't really like the zombie storyline and all of the bloody zombies that don't die, but I may get it anyways because of the amazing graphics. The other two games look neat, but I haven't looked into them that much. Anyways, thanks for that info. So... Anyone else have any favorate medieval games? |
Re: Looking to buy a game-help? I don;t think so... i could only suggest RTS games, but whether they're to your liking or not, i don't know. You could always try Conan! (Only joikng, theres a fair bit of nudity xD) I would also suggest Deus Ex... i can't remember whether it swears much or not, but i know it certainly doesn't have anything worse than sh*t (If at all). Others may be able to help you with this, i don't really play PC games anymore. |
Re: Looking to buy a game-help? If he likes it, team fortress 2 and portal is fine for his specs, probably. They're pretty good games too. Star wars Battlefront 1/2 is also fine, if you can tolerate certain 'BS' moments where unbelievable stuff happens.... |

Re: Looking to buy a game-help? Just curious why being a Christian (I notice you didn't specify a particular denomination) would forbid you from playing games with nudity or swearing. I'm Catholic, and I have no problem with nudity or swearing, but I do prefer it when they are used in a fitting context (i.e not just random cursing for no apparent reason, I mean a Vietnam game yeah, but if Mario started effing and blinding, might be a tad offputting, if humourous at first) If you want to go down the "its a sin" path, well, technically so is the spilling of blood (hence why Priests, Monks and other Holy men in the Middle Ages used blunt weapons, not blades, since Holy Orders fobade the cutting of flesh). Sorry if this is way offtopic, its just i've heard this said many times and as a Catholic, really struggle to see peoples problem. |
Re: Looking to buy a game-help? I don't know if I can answer your question very well, but I will just use the 10 commandments for an example, because they are the simplest set of rules in the Bible. The Bible says a believer will sin, and God will forgive you if you ask forgiveness, but if you intentionally sin and use "God will forgive me when I'm done" as an excuse continually, you probably aren't truly saved. Seeing nudity/hearing swearing does not necessarily mean you are sinning right away, unless you like it, but eventually, you will find yourself wanting it, which is a bad thing. The blood part is something that doesn't bother me and does not make me want to murder something, and blood is a natural thing, especially in the pre-Christ time when people had to continually sacrifice sheep. Overall, what goes in to your mind is not sin, how you handle it determines whether it is sin or not, and I don't handle nudity very well. To answer your question, I am of the Christian denomination, which is the original one in the New Testament of the Bible. Don't worry about getting off-topic, because I believe the thread is already dead. |

Going by the way of nature, one could say that nudity is on the safe side as well, since people slept together long before someone had the idea to write the pentateuch, let alone the new testament. I just find it slightly hypocritical to be honest, but I guess it's your thing. Me, I'd also probably advise you to look into Tribes Vengeance. |
Re: Looking to buy a game-help? I don't really like the blood and gore in a game, it is just almost impossible to find a modern game without it, and I don't consider it morally wrong. I don't even play games much, I mostly make mods for JKA, which is a very clean game, but I am getting tired of it's low quality graphics and physics engine. I'm not surprised that you think it sounds hypocritical, but would it sound any less crazy if I said I wasn't a Christian? I can't make you see things my way, so I won't try. I will look at tribes of vengeance, but I have my eye on TES: Oblivion, but I am worried about the fact that my PC is on the low end of the minimum requirements list, but it seems to be my dream game. You are probably thinking that I am even more hypocritical because of the "Invasion from hell" storyline. I don't see that as wrong because their perception is far from reality. |
Re: Looking to buy a game-help? I personally wouldn't recommend oblivion, since the only thing it offers is graphics, storywise it's on a very weak end. Another game that might interest you is beyond good and evil. As to sounding it any less crazy where you not a christian, no not really. |
Re: Looking to buy a game-help? Meh, maybe I'll get Oblivion later when I have a better PC, and I can crank the graphics up to high, maybe I will try morrowind, I've heard that has a better storyline, and will run on my PC quite a bit better. I will also look into all of the games posted above. |
Re: Looking to buy a game-help? Well, Morrowind (and I dare say Oblivion, though i've never played it) has cursing (albeit in a different language) and partial nudity (if you remvoe all the clothes from a corpse they are in their underwear) I thought I'd mention that given your above comments. |
Re: Looking to buy a game-help? Yea, but I'm not the type to strip dead people of their clothes, but I will take that into consideration, and from what I've heard, the language is very rare, and mild. |
Re: Looking to buy a game-help? Well, if your after that suit of Glass, Daedric or whatever Armour, you will need to remove it from corpses correct? Would be an interesting roleplaying choice though. No looting corpses. |
Re: Looking to buy a game-help? Can You RUN It? Try this site, it should help you know wheter your PC can run games that you want to play or not |
Re: Looking to buy a game-help? Well, my PC might be able to run it, but I wouldn't have much hope for it, especially since it just about died, and I am not getting a new one any time soon, so.... Oblivion is out of the story for now. |
Re: Looking to buy a game-help? World of Warcraft would probably be the game for you if you like MMORPGS. This game will keep you busy for a LONG time. It covers a lot of adventure, and has no nudity. The only problem is that you have to pay $15 a month to play. |
Re: Looking to buy a game-help? woah there~~ Do not taint a pure being with the filth that is WoW. paying 50 dollars just so you can grind to level 60+ is not a worth while thing if you ask me. I'd rather get hellgate london and play online with it. But if you think you have money to spare, by all means (i warned you) it will keep you busy for a LONG time indeed. With many quests and half of 'em are repetitive. |
Re: Looking to buy a game-help? About 1-2 years ago I had that kind of time, but if I had that kind of money, I'd be working on getting a new PC. The only MMORPG I've played is Runescape, and all I see in WOW is a graphical overhaul of Runescape with a price tag attached. Since my PC motherboard, I don't know if I am even going to get a game for a while, because I won't accept anything but Half Life 2 quality graphics, but cannot run anything but HL2 but I don't really like the amount of blood and zombies it has. I also want a game that either has a amazing storyline like KOTOR (not KOTOR2) or has an amazing combination of extra abilities like Jedi Academy or Half Life 2 (multi player, a good SDK, ect). In other words, if I'm going to play with it for a month, and never play it again, I don't want it. WoW would keep me occupied, but I don't have that much time and money! |
Re: Looking to buy a game-help? Deus Ex "Greatest FPS ever made." Guild Wars "Non-Stop entertaining." Rome Total War "Very definition of an epic strategy game" Star Wars Knights of the Old Republic 2 "No other game since Knights of the Old Republic has managed to deliver this excellent style of role-playing." Would be definite recommendations. No nudity, only small amounts of blood on Deus Ex, and great storyline on each game. All to which i have and all to which i recommend. Guess you wouldn't be interested in Postal then? :uhoh: |
Re: Looking to buy a game-help? Quote:
WoW's graphics aren't that impressive either... The above equation proves it all~ I think Syt Q gave some pretty good suggestions but if you really want a game you can play for over a month with replay value or something like that Dues Ex MIGHT and MIGHT NOT fit the description. But i guess you could try.... Unreal 2 - The Awakening, Its quite okay with a unique way of introducing the game to you. There seems to be mods that are out there to enhance the gameplay. (Although i only tried the original without mods) If you want to try RTS games. Dawn of war and Star wars:Empire at war are pretty awesome games as well. both which are able to play in your computer gear/specs either at lowmedium-medium-medium almost high. P.S. try Homeworld 2 i forgot about that. |
