Default I am SICK of wad error message!!

ok I'm getting an error message:
error cataloging localized wad files.

Ok, I have an american version of sacrifice, and I am able to fix it: I have to remove the sfx.wad file from the local folder. I delete it, run the game, then close the game. Then I put the sfx.wad back in, and it runs properly. However, I have to do this every time I restart or turn on the computer again, and this happens quite frequently, considering it is a brand new computer with windows ME. I would like this problem permanently solved.

My thaum.err:
Current path 'C:\PROGRAM FILES\SHINY\SACRIFICE'

check this thread: http://www.veforums.com/Forum25/HTML/000505.html

Oxryly has posted this in that thread:

Quote:
Have you guys installed the patch? There is a potential fix for the problem there.
Basically the problem is this: all data files are mapped into virtual memory by Sacrifice. Windows only gives user programs 1 gigabyte of virtual address space, and lots programs will use it.

So at any given time, if you PC has been on for awhile, that space gets filled up and fragmented (like a hard drive).

Sacrifice needs to map in 350+ Mb of data into that space (its more for the German version because the German speech samples are half again as long as the English samples).

If you have other programs running, or have fragmented virtual memory, Sacrifice will encounter a failure trying to map in the large sound file ("sfx_german.wad").

Solutions that have worked (in order of preference):

- Verifying Virtual memory settings are default and there is plenty of space on the virtual memory drive
- Closing all other open applications
- Rebooting and trying Sacrifice first thing
- Manually setting virtual memory space to 350+ Mb (I haven't tried that one)
- Swapping "sfx_german.wad" for "sfx_english.wad" (shipped with the English version)
- Deleting "sfx_german.wad"
Also experiment with the AGP Apperture Size in your BIOS, see if setting different values, like 32/64/128 mb helps...

It is reported that setting the AGP Apperture Size in the BIOS to 128 mb has fixed this problem....Doesn't work for you?

Well, give these things a try.

-remove/uninstall Sacrifice and its directory
-have windows control your virtual memory
-go to DOS and delete your Windows Virtual Memory Swap File...
make sure you are in the C:windows directory.
then use this command: del win386.swp
-restart your pc.
-defragmentate your harddrive.
-reinstall Sacrifice including patch 2

see if it works
