Map Contest Update

Okay here you go .... We have so far have been able to play 130 maps. From these 35 maps have made it into the 'Potential Finalist' category.

We will continue to review the remaining maps and then the 'Potential Finalist' maps will be played extensively by the team for the remaining time that we have.

Before anyone asks how we were able to look at so many maps so quickly ... the answer is that maps had been submitted from Feb 1st onwards ... the last 3 days of the contest saw some 70 maps submitted.

I'm hopeful that the remaining maps will be cleared this coming week; we will then take a week to look at the potential winners and then announce the 5 finalists.

So the timeline looks like this -

March 14th - 5 Finalists advised and posted to the Upload Area for you to cast your votes.

March 21st - Overall 'PC' Winner announced.

Any further questions will be answered once all maps have been tested. Maps have been judged on the criteria we outlined in the rules.

Thanks again for a fantastic response to the competition, the maps have been incredible and old rivalries have emerged within the Sacrifice Team as we test these maps with Patch 3 http://www.veforums.com/smile.gif

From Oxryly's aggressive all out attacking, to Pancake's 'cheeezzzzeeeyy' tactics, Savage's how did he do that, El Watto's backdoor expertise and Ted Danson's fighting two sides at once, to my own strange method's of gameplay ... we are all having loads of fun.

He wrote that theyve played 130 maps. He didnt write how many there are in total. (How many do they still have to play?)

I had an idea for consolation prizes (to everyone who didn't make it into the final five. [Well, them too...])

Would it be possible for Shiny/Interplay to burn CDs with the submitted maps and mail them to everyone who entered? AoL seems to send me enough useless CDs, maybe Shiny/Interplay could send a useful one. It certainly would be good PR! http://www.veforums.com/wink.gif

Nothing Shiny does is useless (except Patches one and two, in preperation for 3)

PsychicToaster March 3rd, 2001 08:30 PM

patch 1 and 2 were not useless.... as you said they were preparation for the god patch 3 (i bow before thy holiness)

Flea March 3rd, 2001 08:40 PM

I dont care if I win anything big(though it would be nice, Im sure I didnt win the comp)

I just want one of these:

Extras: There will also be some cool extra prizes such as T-shirts,mouse pads, and other Interplay/Shiny paraphernalia as rewards to other notable entrants

Right now I am moving the mouse on top of my desk...probably not the best thing for it...

TheMad March 4th, 2001 01:51 AM

Yeah, must be so difficult. I sympathize with you greatly, because it is a monstrous task you have undertaken. Also, I can't wait to play the final maps, cause they've gotta be really good (duh...)

Doc, I'm dying to know if my map made it to the "potential" finalists. Could you please post here and on sacrifice.net all of the ones that almost made it? I'll never know how close I got, if I got anywhere.

Great stuff, SacTeam! All you need now is to have an inside SacTeam Tournament to see who wins the most games during the testing period.

Pancake sounds familiar, BTW. I think I've played him at least once (it was either the Exe map or some two player map that went on in a deadlock for hours... during the beta test.)

Oh geez, I can't remember! Well, at least my forehead stopped concaving! Whoo-hoo!

I'm heading off to Spatula City, right away! (Don't ask.)

/me thinks of a good point.

Well, I'm sure some maps were designed for patch 3, specifically for allied vision http://www.veforums.com/biggrin.gif so we need the patch before we can fairly test the maps, hmm?

[Bwahahahaha, they can't get out of that one]
