Landscape=fine, MISSING HEALTH BARS!

Ok I got the landscape to stop getting holes in it. BUT! ow I ahve a problem with missing health and mana bars...they get hidden behind the scenes and only appear at certain angles. The place where my wizard's mana and health should appear is empty...no red or blue indicators. AND in the selection menus and things, the options (like choosing a game to load) are supposed to highlight. Well, they don't. I have a Monster Fusion card WITH the latest drivers and this has not yet been addressed on the guide. What can I do?

I have the same problem with a 16 mb Voodoo banshee and K6-2 400 mhz.

Apache[VE] November 19th, 2000 10:19 AM

yeah I have that problem too.

Sophistry (sp), the lead programmer said it was a known issue and it's a 3dfx driver problem.

Im kinda ticked off about it too, as you honestly can't play the game without knowing what your health and mana is at.

Assuming you're playing with a voodoo3, go to www.3dfx.com and get the drivers dated July 2000 for your card. That fixes the health bar problem perfectly.

GeezorD November 19th, 2000 12:13 PM

Yeah I got the drivers and they match the version that Shiny recommends, though I am still having the problem with the missing bars. It sucks to not know when your wizard is going to die, unless you put the pointer over him.

Spriseris November 19th, 2000 05:02 PM

I'm getting the same problem! No life bars over heads, nor in the top right corner for my wizard! *sighs*

i have a voodoo 3500 w/ the latest non-beta drivers.

Spriseris November 19th, 2000 07:46 PM

So, i go on 3dfx and get the latest beta drivers. Beta 4. Released 2 days ago. Not only does it not help the invisible lifebars, but it also makes my Ultima Online green-tinted when i play in a window!

Vig November 19th, 2000 08:51 PM

NOT the latest drivers. The drivers from *** JULY OF 2000 ***. OLD drivers. NOT the beta drivers. The drivers from JULY OF 2000. Christ.

Horacio January 5th, 2001 12:45 PM

I have the same problem. I have a voodoo 3 3000, DirectX7a.

I had lanscape holes, creatures dissapearing a bit, so I installed old drivers (1.05.00), from July, it fixed the lanscape holes but not the bars being hidden. I tried beta drivers too (1.05.02), no differences.

I tried to play with all the options, nothing makes the bars visible. Triangulation too.

my CPU is a celeron 333MHz. 256MB ram.

Graphic assistant cannot help, it is reserved for at least Pentium 3.

Heeelp...

For the Monster Fusion & Voodoo Banshee we recommend that you use video driver 4.12.01.1222 & that you're max resolution be 1280x1024 16-bit.

With the Voodoo 3 3000 make sure that you have triangle strips disabled.

I found this in an earlier post from someone with that problem (un-edited, sorry):

"Ok, so i finally got it working, and here's what i discovered:
I used the Voodoo 3500 drivers (i used 3 sets: the official 1.04.02, the beta3, and the beta4 (which came out 3 days ago)).. all to no avail. The landscapes are fine, the fogging works, and people stop losing limbs if i disable the triangles. But I still had no lifebars.

So, out of frustration, I decided to install the Voodoo 3 drivers from July (1.05.00) like the faq says to do, even though I don't have a Voodoo 3000, and I figured I'd need special drivers for my TV card features to work. Well, I extracted the drivers, ran the setup.exe in the setup9x folder, and it overwrote my display adapter drivers with Voodoo 3 ones. Now lifebars work fine, and I can re-enable triangles and not lose limbs... but I have to turn fogging off or half of everything goes skycolored.

It's strange how the drivers behave and how fogging/triangles flipflops between the driver types.

My only gripe (and it's unrelated to sacrifice): If I use anything other than the 1.04.02 Voodoo 3500 drivers (voodoo 3 1.05 drivers or any of the 3500 beta driver kits), my game of Ultima Online is green-tinted when in a window. If i go fullscreen, it looks ok, but it's f'ed in a window (which is the only way i play it!) I experienced this with DX7 and DX8. The only way I can fix that problem is to drop my graphics acceleration tab down 2 notches under performance! (or to downgrade my drivers back to 1.04.02, which worked fine for me until I decided to play Sacrifice)

Sorry that was a bit off topic, but I hope any information I have given will help you enjoy this game.. It's incredible!

Oh, with these 1.05.00 drivers, I not only miss out on fogging, but my spell effects don't seem as "lively". I swear I saw more sparkles and stuff when I was using my 3500 drivers.

Email me at spriseris@hotmail.com if you'd like to discuss this message or have any questions. I'd be happy to try and help out any fellow 3dfx owners!

My system:
Voodoo 3500TV
PII 350MHz
Asus P2B motherboard
320 megs PC100
SB Live! Value"

Then, later, from someone else:

"Well, I've been trying to get Sacrifice to work with the voodoo3500tv card, and it wasn't working. I upgraded to directx8, but the problem was in the video drivers. If I stayed with the latest RELEASE version, I couldn't seen the health/mana bars. If I went to the latest BETA version, I had the problem where your character would fall through the ground. The latter problem was supposed to be fixable by enabling geometry assist, but my 3dfx tools wouldn't allow me to mess with that for some reason.
Here's the solution: I downloaded the BETA *3* drivers from 3dfx (version 4 is the latest). I assume version 4 allowed you to enable/disable geometry assist, and version 3 always had it perhaps? Whatever it was, it worked. Now I just hope my other games still work...

Hep"

I hope this helps. Thanks for your patience.

In reference to my previous post, I solved my problem by:

Reinstalling windows, format c:

I think that the problem was caused by an unproper uninstall of the lastest voodoo 3 3000 drivers (1.07). It must be still active somewhere, I don't know the details.

I simply reinstalled all windows + drivers, including drivers 1.05, I disabled triangles and now everything is running fine, bars are present on the screen.

Hope this is useful...

Horacio
