There is a problem with Dawn of War, it's called balance by Relic. Dark Crusade added a lot of potentially good content, but with the latest patch (one I'm refusing to download for as long as possible) they're really fubar'd it up. Add to that the gameplay changes (limitations) brought in by DC itself, they've turned an awesome RTS, thatis both captivating and strong in play and made it less awesome and more "pump out the strongest units imginable and hope I have enough resources to do it". There are only 3 points to DoW: collecting resources, defence and attack. Not saying it's a poor game by ANY standards, it totally rawks, but it has that certain finesse missing that CnC has.

Granted my copy of CC3 hasn't arrived yet, going from Generals, you had to think more tactically. Yes there's attack, yes there's defence and yes there's resource collecting, but it wasn't as simple as that. To attack, you had to bypass their myriad of defence platforms that targetted different things, so it was a case of recon with a jet, bombing it and then going in with tanks and soldiers. Similarly for defence, you had to have a plethora of defence mediums to confuse the enemy. You also had the added element of aircraft, of which did different things, adding another scope to the game. Also bear in mind the jet's had to re-arm, which is something you don't get with the artillery pieces in DoW.

Whilst you also have to defend your rsources in DoW, CC carries it off in a more pluasible way. Having to not only get resources, but protect them is important, especially with out-lying reserves that might be into enemy territory that you're sneaking some goods from.

Generally, I see CC as a more in-depth RTS that goes into more detail than DoW, which employs a basic RTS method, but carries it off extremely well. I wouldn't say one is better than the other on a global terms, but given the picking, I'd go for CC.

One thing you'll notice about CNC3, is that once end game comes, things become horribly un-balanced at times. But there is a patch arriving may apparently, so all shall be well.

Well One thing I know about rts games is that there is no such thing as balance it's the "illusion" of balance that can keep a game intersting granted dow has balance issues but guess what?? it features 6 distinct races while c&c series only recently added a third race and as milo said balance issues still crop up..For my money the only true "balanced rts game that ever came out was populous: the beggining every tribe with the exception of how they look was a mirror image of one another from the peasant down to the shaman spells.

Dow all the way

reason one
Variability
the races of dow are far more different than the races of cnc

balance

a lot of people might say that dow is imba, I say they are wrong and also I just do not believe EA
we all have seen what they managed to do to general

reason three grapchics

the graphics of dow are far more nicer, well made the animations are better

reason four sense

who in their last graps of their sanity would ever make a mech that requires destroying your own units to become effective!

reason five suspense

the in game feel for dow is much richer

reason six spammage and tactical use of abilities and units

cnc right now is just spamming and base bashing, while in dow you hae to think a bit more

reason seven innovation

Dow is far more innovative than cnc which is basically just a rehash of traditional rts's beginning with dune 2000

all in all I'd probably get act of war
the storyline is unbeatable
and sides are balanced and different
the same can be in many ways said about resources
