Wondering, does anyone here know of any decent (American) Civil War games for the computer? Preferably RTS, and including Fredericksburg, Gettysburg, Cold Harbor, and Antietam. Alternate-history type would be appreciated. Bonus points for being in the last two years and including good biographical information on such commanders as Sherman, Buford, Chamberlain, Armistad, Pickett, and Johnston.
Finding any sort of Civil War game that isnt over-the-top stratedgy is a hard thing to do - most of the ones that arent along those lines usually end up failing to even sell well....
The Civil War may be a very interesting time in history but let's face it...two armies standing in a line firing at each other from across a field just wont make good gameplay transiton at all - thats why there arent alot (if any) FPS games based on time periods prior to WWI-WWII - there's just no point...it's not interesting gaming.
I see your point in that it doesn't provide the small unit action a WW2 game would, but I feel a fairly detailed strategy game would be cool. However, the right detail would be difficult to achieve, because for me it would be involving all the fatigue and hardiness of the troops, railroads and river crossing, and morale, yet be easy to manage. The two desires cancel each other out, unfortunately.
I'll stick to watching Gettysburg over and over again, I guess. Gods and Generals was too melodramatic, Glory was too fake, and Red Badge of Courage is... old... maybe if they make a new one, it'd be better. But Gettysburg is perfect.
Thanks for the help, any more ideas, please share.
Oh, and which Civilization has the mod? I have Call to Power and Civ3.

I dunno about that, I actually think it'd be an interesting challenge to come up with tactics to match the weaponry. That's why there were so many deaths, because the weapons were more advanced than the tactics.
And there is proof that tactics were used, rather than men just "standing in a line" shooting at each other. Of course, I'm referring to Chamberlain's (at least I think it was him...) swinging gate tactic.
Also, I'd love a link to this Civil War mod for Civ. Is it for Civ4?
I would suggest Victoria: An Empire Under the Sun, and its expansion. They're much more broader-based than the US civil war, set 1836-1930, but for alternate history you can't get much better. Plus, you can convert it through to Hearts of Iron: Doomsday (1936-1953).
It has a civil war scenario, but its not really a close view of the conflict. I've just been playing it heaps recently.
