i can't exactly tell you what file the tracer particle is, but i can tell you how to go about finding it.
when you installed the max-fx tools, you were given an archiver (kinda like winzip) named rasmaker.
first, creat a new folder called my editing files or something like that. next, put rasmaker along with it's dll into that folder. after that, copy x_data.ras to that folder.
now go to the command prompt and type in rasmaker -x x_data.ras. this should great a sub directory called data.
the particle files would be in
data\database\particles
Hey Kurt, I'm interested...you seem to have the answers for most, do you work for Remedy or 3Drealms? If you do (or even if you don't) I want to shake your hand.

nope, i'm not employed for either. i'm learning along with you guys. but, i like doing my best to help people, and i know what it's like doing something for the first time and being frustrated in the process.
Originally posted by KaMisTyLe: Well, i already did that along time ago, and the particle files arent editable in the ParticleFX, so that dont help me.
sorry that i couldn't help. you might want to search out for drdespair on the main max payne forum. he's currently has a beta on dual desert eagles along with tracer effects.
The bullet trails are in the actual bullet mesh. The particle effects are used in the game as .RPS files, Realtime Particle Sets, which have been exported from the .PSE files. The .PSE files are the ones you edit, and a few examples were provided with the editor. Edit those.
