I have Max Payne installed on two different systems. And both work great! System One (no patch installed): PIII 1GHz 256mb RAM Windows 98 ASUS V8200 Deluxe GeForce3 64mb DDR (official 12.41 WHQL drivers) 52X CD-ROM DirectX 8.1 (latest 648 build) ASUS CUV4X Motherboard (BIOS 1007) VIA 4in1 4.32 FINAL Drivers System Two (no patch installed): PIII 800MHz 128mb RAM Windows 98 ASUS V7700 GeForce2 GTS 64mb DDR (official 12.41 WHQL drivers) 24X CD-ROM DirectX 8.1 (latest 648 build) ASUS CUV4X Motherboard (BIOS 1007) VIA 4in1 4.32 FINAL Drivers Naturally, the first system runs the best, so I only use that one, but I tried the second system to see what it was like and if there were any problems. Tbird 1.33ghz 256 DDR RAM Asus A7A266 Motherboard Maxtor 20gb 7200rpm HD Geforce 2 GTS 32mb SBLive! Value Running on WindowsME Only thing in tray was my Microsoft Intellimouse Explorer software. It ran really slow at first, until I installed my AGP drivers correctly. Went from 704 to 3345 3Dmarks =P Ran without a hitch. Not a single crash or freeze. Only problem is that sometimes during the graphic novel sequences, the little "tooltip" with the time pops up in the bottom right corner. Not at all annyoing though. Let me know how many hours I was playing without getting up to look on my kitchen stove =D |

system: HP Pavilion (I forget the model number) about 1 year old Motherboard: unknown. "standard system device" or something. I don't know how to find the specs on the motherboard. OS: WindowsME Processor: Pentium 3 at 933 mhz CDROM: IDE-CD R/RW 8x4832... "Standard CD-ROM Device" manufacturer and version unavailable. hard disk: 60 gb System RAM 128 Sound card: Conexant Riptide Audio Device. Four sound drivers listed: in windows\options\cabs is AUDIOHSF\crtaud.sys and in WINDOWS is \SYSTEM32\DRIVERS\CRTAUD.SYS. File version is 5.12.01.0313. Also listed (under Windows\System is MMDEVLDR.VXD with a file version 4.90.3000. Also is VMM32.VXD[nkern.vxd] with file version "not available" Video card: Guillemot Hercules 3D Prophet II GTS/GTS Pro 64 mb (installed by me) Driver file version 4.12.01.0635 under driver details it says NVDISP.DRV under that driver is NVMINI.VXD under that one is vmm32.vxd[vxd.vxd] (note, there is no file version for this last one; the first two listed are the same file version listed above) Mouse: USB MS Intellimouse Explorer Except for the video card, all the hardware is stock as it came from Hewlett-Packard. With several other games which worked fine on my older Pentium 2 400 with a VooDoo 3000 PCI, I have had (on this P3 933 system) crashes to desktop, freezeups, etc. (maybe it is a WindowsME problem on this newer computer, since the other computer has regular Win98) But so far with Max Payne, no crashes or lockups... not yet, anyway. Since the game is running okay I have not downloaded the patch yet. I am running the game at mostly medium detail, since I had read on this forum about so many people having problems, and since the installation gave me those medium settings as defaults and so I thought I would leave well enoough alone and not try to run the game with everything maxed out. It is running on a 19 inch monitor at 1024x768, (installation gave me that as default resolution) I am only on the first level so I haven't gotten to some parts of the game where other people have had problems but so far Max Payne runs perfectly for me. I was surprised because I had read so many posts about problems. Also there was NO DEMO which always makes me uneasy. And where are the reviews? We have the game, we have the cheats even, and yet I could not find ONE review of the game in a Google search. Seems like there should be some reviews posted by now, I mean, some players have already finished the game! What I have seen so far, I really like...but I am only at the beginning of the game. |
