Default jumping...- the Ultima 8 desaster again?

oh my god - I thought, games like Ultima 8, where you couldn´t finish the game because it was nearly impossible for "Mario" Avatar to jump over the sequence with the flooding stones in the river (who remembers the worst place in RPG-game design ever...?? ;-)), we would never see again in the future....but...

is the place where Bob has to jump up over many pipes (after the "butchery"?) like U8? I cant manage it...:-( Is there any trick..?

suggestions welcome....

Leto

I am having the same problem...i just cant seem to get the knack of jumping and flying to ledges and stuff...ive jumped off this barrel 50 times probably, but cant reach the ledge. I never liked Mario/Jumpinguzzles games, and this is a good example of why. Jumping to ledges is not very fun. I can do that at home for cryin out loud.
Anyways, am i not jumping from the barrel right with Bob or something? Or has my ignoring of platform games come to haunt me in this "revolutionary" game?
I was really liking this till i encountered these Mario influences.....bummer.

It is very easy to do. The first jumpy bits where there to teach you how to jump.

First you walk to the edge of the barrel. Then you jump straight up, not forward, and hold jump till you reach the top of your jump and he is about to come back down again. Then keep hitting space and move forward.
The jumping and flying made it easy as to make it over lots of jumps you did not need to jump onto every ledge just jump really high and fly as far as you can.

But didnt you feel that the jumping was used as more of a filler for this game? It took away, interupted the game really. At least i think so, it was like those jumping puzzles should have been beneath this game!

Ultima 8? Hell try Ultima 9! they didnt learn from U8 at all, I'm still hopping around like frogger to get to certain areas. Its like "hrm..this part is too easy. Put a series of platforms that rise and sink depending on the platform theyre standing on. That will slow them down!"

no rhyme or reason. just thoughtless little puzzles.
