Re: Good FPS'S?

Soldier of fortune 2, Enemy territory, MOH series, Cod etc. Personally i think cod was crap wich made me not want to play or buy cod2. Dont let that put you off though as you might like it. Sof2 ftw imo :).

You should try Quake 4. The multiplayer mode is awesome.

Re: Good FPS'S?

FPS' are my specialty. It all depends on what your mood is. Good fps' are an art. If you are in a "frantic fps" mode then i suggest either Timesplitters 2 or Timesplitters: Future Perfect. Both are good for some quick killing and flashing lights. If you are in more of a stealth-y and secretive kind of fps i suggest going the route of a Metal Gear Solid (which has fps moments but not all fps) or Perfect Dark for n64 (classic but good). Now if you are into a more fighting ppl online then go for Halo (duh) or Sounter Strike (another duh). Both are great online shooters. Other good online games are the Battlefield (modern combat, 1942..etc) games because they can either be played single player or online and always have a ton of players going at it. Thats pretty much all i got. good gaming

Timesplitters is pretty good, i like them both.

for another one you could look at Doom 3 if you have a Xbox or a faster PC.

Day of defeat: Source/ Battlefeild 2 for MP Half-life 2 Sin EP 1 for SP

Re: Good FPS'S?

Plain out Half Life 1/2, or Episode One are some of the most fun FPS experiences I've had, although I played that Prey demo and that game is pretty fun and weird too, give it a D/L.

Re: Good FPS'S?

I'm an FPS-head as well. I recommend:

-Halo (PC version has new content not in the Xbox version, new maps, and free online multiplayer)

-Medal of Honor Allied Assault + expansion packs (Relatively old game, but fun nonetheless. One of the greatest WWII-era games ever. Campaign kept me occupied for days, and online multiplayer is some of the greatest ever)

-Call of Duty (Much the same reasons as MoH, fun, addictive WWII gameplay in both campaign and multiplayer modes)

-Call of Duty 2 (Same as its predecessor, but shinier. One of my favorites)

-Half-Life 2 (Incredibly deep storyline, this one will keep you hooked till you beat it, and then some)

-Counter Strike: Source (Arguably the best, and easily the most popular, online multiplayer game ever. One of my favorites)

I would mention Battlefield 2, but from your sig it's clear that you already enjoy it. :p

Re: Good FPS'S?

MY suggestions would be Call of Duty:United Offensive, which is the expansion pack for CoD1. I don't like CoD1 without UO and I don't much like CoD2. I would also suggest for the PC Red Orchestra Ost Front and the Forgotten Hope mod for BF1942. Medal of Honor for the PC is also a great classic and you can pick it up cheap now(you can get CoD and BF1942 pretty cheap now as well)

For console go with Golden Eye and Perfect Dark. Turok is also a great FPS, nothing beats shooting explosive arrows or Cerebral Bores.

The only somewhat recent FPS game I've really enjoyed playing MP with my friends with is Red Faction, the first one. It is the only game I've played with almost fully destructable environments. Blowing a hole from one side of the map to the other to create a new path or blowing holes to makes fortresses was always fun.

Re: Good FPS'S?

I, too, am a First Person Shooter fan. Ones I enjoy:
  • Halo 1 & 2
  • Doom 1, 2 (those two are classics), Doom 3 (newer one)
  • Wolfenstein 3D (classic), and ESPECIALLY Return To Castle Wolfenstein, though the community population is dwindling. Then again, the game has been out for several years now, and there is a RTCW 2 on the way. :)
  • Half-Life 1 and 2
  • Battlefield 2 (fantastic multiplayer)
  • Perfect Dark (N64), and Perfect Dark Zero (Xbox 360)
  • Condemned: Criminal Origins (creepy, atmospheric First Person beat-em-up)
  • Thief: The Dark Project, Thief: The Metal Age (both are classics)
  • Unreal Tournament series (also great multiplayer)
  • Goldeneye (N64)

Kind of a long list, and I'm probably missing a bunch... but, oh well. :p

Re: Good FPS'S?

Half Life 1 & 2 - both have great storylines
FarCry - great graphics and gameplay.
Unreal Tournament series - run around shooting and blowing the crap out of things, what more do you need??
Call of Duty - good WW2 game, multiplayer is pretty good as well

Those 4 games will keep you busy and happy for a long time.

Re: Good FPS'S?

CoD series (CoD, UO and CoD2)
Battlefield series (BF 1942, Vietnam and BF 2)
Half Life series (includes HL, HL2 and MP games)
UT 2004
Doom 3
Far Cry

Re: Good FPS'S?

CoD, UT200X and CS/CSS are my favourites for quenching boredom. They're all extremely fast paced FPSs.

I can't believe no one has mentioned Serious Sam 1&2 yet. They're fun because you rarely ever stop shooting :)

My dad got that with his graphics card ages ago. I've played it a few times and I always remember it having really good graphics compared to other games back then.

RED ORCHESTRA OSTFRONT 41-45 for the most realistic game eVER.

Re: Good FPS'S?

The half life series is very good. Also the call of duty series. Also, return to castle wolfenstein is a very good shooter, but as solid snake already mentioned, the population is dwindling for that game, but fun nonetheless.

Single player or multiplayer?
My answers depend on that.

Re: Good FPS'S?

Medal of Honor: Spearhead, great multiplayer.
SOF2, just great.
Global Opreations, cant get enough.
Americas Army, good tatical shotter.
Unreal 2004, Fun instant matches.
Codename Eagle, old but classic.

Edit: Battlefront 2, one of the best games ever.

BTW, what price range?

I wouldn't think that price really matters.

Re: Good FPS'S?

Shame on you guys. None of you have listed F.E.A.R. It's only the most amazingest game ever, after Half-life 2 of course. Counter-strike 1.6 and source are also very good first person shooters. UT and UT2004 are also among the other games i play.

Arkia August 7th, 2006 12:17 PM

Re: Good FPS'S?

F.E.A.R was mention on the first page. Also I don't think its the most 'amazingest' game ever. If you get Half-Life 2 you might consider downloading Dystopia. Probably one of the best source mods so far.

That game is almost too realistic, you have no crosshairs, no indecation when to reload, no idea how many clips you have or anything.

I would go with the Quake series, 3, or 4 preferibly, but you may need a better graphics card for 4, but im not sure. Doom 3, if your into that stuff. BF2, or 1942. CoD:UO (Expantion pack) Great Multiplayer. Halo for the PC, Great Multiplayer. Day of Defeat (via steam) or day of defeat source (via steam) if you like WWII. Counter strike, and Counter strike source (via steam) if you want the best shooter out there. You can get steam from www.steampowered.com Also F.E.A.R. is a great singleplayer, but terrible multiplayer. UT2k4 also great multiplayer

I almost forgot one of my favorites for the Xbox. Breakdown which has to be one of the most immersive games I've played so far.

Re: Good FPS'S?

BF2 is the god of all shooters, You choose somthing and specialize in it, as you rank up with online play you can unlock more weapons for different kits. You can do anything from Being a Jet Pilot, to a medic, to Special forces blowing up the enemy commanders assets. I never get bored with it.

Re: Good FPS'S?

if you do own a PS/PS1, find the original Medal of Honour, and the second; MOH: Underground, no modern games can beat them, they are ace

Re: Good FPS'S?

:dpistols: :aug: :runaway: Counter STrike 1.6

Re: Good FPS'S?

Nah, CS aint that good again, fans just wont admit it, alright alright, its way to spend the hours you dont have, but there are better games on the marked than CS

Arkia August 7th, 2006 04:40 PM

Re: Good FPS'S?

I don't see how Counter Strike isn't that good if thousands of people are probably playing it right now.
