You will need to locate it as u would any other target.
If you have a properly trained Sgt, he will scope for targets for u and advise u of the opfor location - unfortunately most who take your 'azz covering' Sgt don't even have a clue what to do so you may be on your own.
Snipers need keen vision just to even locate potential targets, that is why they operate (generally in 2 man teams, 1 spotter, ranger, one shooter) ya' can't be located behind a myoptically scoped all day.
If and when you qualify as S, you will need both normal vision, binoc and scope acq skills.
These are learned by playing the maps and understand where potential targets may lurk AND U MUST LEARN - be an independent operator if your Sgt can't perform.
Good luck

Also, it may be a good idea to practice fireing in an unsupported position, that way, the places you can snipe from increase dramatically. Maybe in version 2.7, you can go supported crouch/standing when you're by a box or window, but until then, practice makes perfect.

In my ingame experience, sergeants never cover their snipers, or even look out for them. You are basically a one-man show once you get out there. Either hide yourself well or have a steady hand. Preferably both.
