The only game-type you could play if you really wanted to get a high ranking were team dark maps. If you played team light maps or FFAs, you simply couldn't gather enough points to compete with the people who played if i had a trow, the reason being that more people played dark maps than light maps (so it made it a lot easier to get a game) and point loss/gain in FFA for high ranked players was ridiculous. If an emp won an FFA with 4 other emps in the game, he would get about half the points an emp on an emp/emp team playing a emp/emp team would get. As if that were not bad enough, 5 emp FFAs were VERY rare...most of the time, I would have to settle for playing with shields and princes and stuff, which made the points situation for even worse. in most of the games i played, i would lose points if i didn't win, and even if i did win, i would get a ridiculously low number of points. if i ever got 3rd or lower, i would lose an absolutely insane number of points....enough to drop me to lord most of the time. couple this with the fact that emps get rushed alot during ranked FFAs (because the low rankers know that if an emp gets last, everybody else in the game gets a TON of points) and you have a very FFA hostile ranking system. that's why i (and a lot of other players) usually played in the unranked rooms....because we got tired of getting attacked by 3 other players right off the bat just because we were higher ranked than they were...and because even if we did beat them off and win, we would only get about the same number of points an emp on an emp/emp team would get for beating a shield/shield team.
i'm not saying shiny shouldn't implement a ranking system...i actually hope they do, as it can be a lot of fun. i just hope that they will make sure it's a balanced ranking system for both ranked and FFA players. for me, at least, the myth ranking system was only fun when i played if i had a trow. the system was pretty accurate about who was the best on that map, but it was really inaccurate when it came to ranking people who didn't play it as their primary map.
