Is this horrible monstrosity true? I took a look at the Red Orchestra Mod(greatest mod ever created, next to FH)
webpage, and i saw a link to a notice by none other than Valve, sibling to Satan, and ungodly father to the horrendous Steam system. So, I take a look, and Valve is releasing(via Steam download only of course) what looks like Red Orchestra, but with a bit more vehicles. I read, and to my surprise, it IS RO, but as i said, with a bit more vehicles as if
the mod team was recruited by the company to finish them up for a retail game. Since I have not seen any updayes of RO in a while, I'm having my doubts. What do you think?
Now, what I want to know, has the RO team been bought out by EA's competitor for most obnoxious game developer?
...or...
Am I missing something?
By my experience, RO isn't that good to start with, but I'm sure there are others that disagree... But does it matter? Counter-Strike and Day of Defeat used to be free too, but nowdays Valve is pumping out money from both them. One more FPS in the list hardly makes a difference, considering that they all are the same.
Ok, i read the other post and i see where this is going, and how it got there...
Now, am I right in assuming RO: O 41-45 will not be available in retail stores?
Which means i still have to get Steam, and download it through Steam, and update it through Steam, and play it on Steam?
Because Steam sucks, i mean it transcends sucks, its like getting a hot poker up your ass every time you try to play multiplayer.
If there was one thing i loved about RO Combined Arms, was that to play online, one just had to launch the mod, click on "Multiplayer", find a server, and click "Join".
Now I can predict this, dont help me out, i've got it:
Install Steam, Install game, Launch game, click multiplayer, wait for game to minimize and Steam applet to load, enter email, enter password, press "Log In", press "ok", retype password, click "Log In", click "Ok", retype password, rinse, and repeat 50 times. Then select a server, click "Join", enter password, play game.
I can see the great potential of RO as a standalone game, but Steam is gonna kill it. Like really kill it. I love RO, but Steam gives me projectile vomiting. I can only hope for the best.
I have a somewhat related question: Are there any good total conversion type mods out yet for Half Life 2? And by mod, I mean a free one, not a pay Valve for more content one. Paying for a "mod" to me is akin to buying an expansion pack. Nothing wrong with that, just not what I'm asking about.
Something for HL2 like Desert Combat or Forgotten Hope is to Battlefield 1942. A really high quality mod. There seem to be lots of mini mods for it, but nothing all that spectacular that I've seen.

YES THAT IS ALL TURE!!!!
RO didn't sell out though, they won the MSU competition, and they are using a standalone license of UE2.5 (one of the prizes for winning), and are selling the game over Steam because it is cheaper than through a publisher, so Valve gets a commission from that, and RO devs get the rest. Everybody wins, except those who refuse Steam or have dialup still.
@ Oblivious : I think the only TC out for HL2 so far has been Dystopia. You should find it at HL2files.com, and lets not go offtopic .
