Can my graphics card handle it?

I'm looking at picking up Guild Wars as it looks like an awesome game, but the only computer I could run it on is my laptop.

I'm not exactly a computer buff, but here's what I know:
Apparently GW needs an ATI Radeon 8500 or GeForce 3 or 4 MX Series video card with 32MB of VRAM ... the VRAM is cool, I've got 64MB of that, but my video card is an SiS M661MX 3D AGP, and I have no idea whether that means a big fat NO GUILD WARS FOR ENTROPY.

What do you think? Replacing my video card is pretty out of the question. Any opinions are appreciated.

Initially I was going to say no chance.

However looking at some information (sadly from the manufacturer themselves which you must always take with a pinch of salt) they claim that their integrated graphics on the chip you mention can handle up 3.2GB per second of graphics data.

This is an optimal value but I believe this means that you have Gfx performance of about an Ati 8500.

Note though that this (Ati 8500) is not even a last gen. gfx architecture you are looking at 4 generations back at least. So don't expect to run with all the eye candy possible. I think it will be a modest rendering of the game (wait it is a 3D game right?)

If it's not then you have no issues.

To conclude: if 3D then you have a chance if not 3D then 'no worries mate'.

Hmm. I expected an answer like this. I've talked to a few other people since I posted this thread, they said it's possible to run but the quality will be nasty. Really appreciate the help, nameChanged :)

Well ... I can just salivate over the G5 some more instead. And find a lower-quality game to play :S

Well you can always try, and if it doesn't work you can always buy a new videocard (if you want to and if you have the money).
There are some very cheap but good cards out there.

I doubt it dude.
The whole issue surrounded the fact that the only machine he had to play this on was his laptop so no graphics upgrades possible unfortunately.

Correct. Even if I could, I wouldn't dare dissemble my laptop, it's all new and shiny and ... sexy.

nameChanged: Her. Her laptop. Lol.

No ... you were saying that the only machine I could play GW on was my laptop, right? But you said his laptop, referring to mine ... I'm the girl. Not you. Me. Female. *points to breasts*
