I think that gaming has just sort of turned into the scapegoat for these kind of things. The whole issue depends on the pysche of the kid themself. If they are likely to actually try these things, or believe them, then they shouldn't be playing the video games.

there have been sevral studies that have been done that show that vilence in video games does not make u have bad thoughts about killing u teacher but infact calm u down. lets face it the real world sucks so what do we do we make new ones that dont have the limitations as this world does. we cant walk in to a mall with an ak-47 and just start unloading on people so what do we do we make games like state of emergency so that we can do that and not have the problems if we really do that.
Seriously though, this whole videogames create violence is just an easy way for media to make money. I can't remember the last time a television program pointed out how much you can learn from video games, how it gets people interested in specific topics and meet friends all over the world with the same hobby.
Well Master. That was a long read. I only read the top paragraph but will read the rest soon, but whenever I see this topic I get so damn angry.
The press pisses me off. And so do little crack head kids who have mental problems before they start playing these games, ruin it for the rest of us. In my opinion, video games DO NOT condone violence. It is the people playing them. Picture this. Some teenage kid is an absolute mental. He been abused by his family, has no friends and generally a bad life. This guy takes a 9mm to school and starts shooting up. He then blames this on video games. I'm going to keep it short and finish here because im at work and don't have much time, but these people piss me off by doing this. I think it is the person that plays these games is already messed up and blames games for their actions, leaving then "non-responsible". I'd say it is a very small percentage of people who are actually effected by games. Sure, they stimulate you and give you somewhat of a "rush". But why would anyone become "Violent" from watching semi-realistic images running around on a screen. Its stupid. Thats my view.
Do videogames cause violence? Parents and public officials in a position of power suggest that they do, video gamers and industry insiders suggest that they don't and that there is a clear line between fantasy and reality in videogames. The problem is due to irresponsible parenting.
Thats exactly the problem. If someone is going to shoot up a school, hes not going to do it because he sees it in Grand Theft Auto. Seeing GTA may tip him over the edge but there will be other factors that lead to it.
If someone cannot distinguish the difference between the pixel havok-engined textured status bar'd world and the real world, you should not be allowed to use technology and should be taken to an island.
I've grown up with video games, and was introduced to them at a young age. At about the age of 5 i was playing the Doom games, Wing Commander 3, Frontier Elite 2, and the Rebel Assault games. I was almost encouraged to do this by my dad, he freely let me play on his computer when I was a lad, and for the years ive been playing Video games, it has affected me at school I reckon, but only reduced my grades because I sometimes spend too much damn time playing. You are all right though, it is a great way to relax, come home from school from a boring day and loads of stick off random idiots because im Ginger and play computer games. Its great to come home and relax playing, pour yourself a beer, and take it easy. Nothing like it
A lifetime of video gaming has not affected me in any way. I am not a violent person, and I avoid fighting almost all the time. Games dont somehow magically make me want to kill people, and i'd say im a fairly normal, and stable person really. Games have only enhanced my learning and interest for different conflicts in history, and given me greater understanding about the human suffering inflicted (a la Brothers In Arms).
