Host Joint Operations:Typhoon Rising without Novaworld

I would like to host Joint Operations games over the Internet, but I don't want to use Novaworld's server. Is there a way to create a server via a LAN gateway to the Internet, like via Wingate?
Thanks for any info.

uh I'm pretty sure there is a way. In fact I believe I have read something about it earlier. I'll let you know what I find.

Sorry It's about a LAN server. Perhaps it may still be of any use to you.

Q: How do I host a multiplayer game?

Answer: To host a game over a Local Area Network, simply click on the “LAN” button while in the main game menu. This will take you to a second menu where you can choose to join or host a LAN game by clicking on the appropriate button. After pressing the “Host Game” button, simply change any information like game name and password in the fields provided, choose a map or maps to play, and then hit the “Start Hosting” button. To choose a map, simply double click on the name of the map you want to add in the list of maps on the bottom left hand side of the screen or click once on the name and then press the Add (+) button. This will move the map you choose into a queue on the right hand side. You won’t be able to start hosting until you place a map in the queue.

Perhaps someone else can answer your question better than I can

Thanks for the info. I did try this, but it requires an established link to the Internet via the Local Area Nework interface, which I don't yet have.
I willl try to link the LAN via Wingate as a VPN, which may work, although I'll have to reconfigure my firewall to pass the ports.
Again, thanks.

Re: Host Joint Operations:Typhoon Rising without Novaworld

Well that post was a waste of time, ya?

How about something like this:
I too would like to host without Novaworld,
I have found the following:

1) Concerning RAT
- Quote from help #11:
The Remote Admin Tool, or RAT, gives the host full administrative
powers of Joint Operations: Typhoon Rising game servers even if they
are on a separate computer.
-- makes it sound like we can host as we seek to.

2) Game.cfg settings -- multiplayer
// MULTIPLAYER
- mpipaddressstring = "0.0.0.0"
-- This must be addresses we allow in... all zero's meaning, anyone.
- internet_address = "0.0.0.0"
-- That is related to the name, that I chose, of my game;
-- Is that for in or out traffic?

And that is the big question. Where, if anywhere, can we change what the outgoing ip address is? Need to enter my friend's when it's found.

- There is no problem for incoming, although unable to test this ofcourse; the problem, again, is telling the game where to look for a hosted game.

I'm waiting on a friend to help with tests, but the waiting is the hardest part.
:D

Re: Host Joint Operations:Typhoon Rising without Novaworld

I add:
When I changed the requested firewall rule to, any computer & any communications and ports, when it was looking to connect to 255.255.255.255, well, my firewall kept saying it stopped a hack for portscanning,
and I probably scanned alot of peoples computers at the same time, not sure.

So I know it can look all over, again I did checks and am waiting for feedback from friend.

"Dumbass"??? One more like that and you'll be reported to the administrator.

I have yet to figure out that RAT server. I think you still need to connect to NovaWorld to use it.
I've bit the bullet and reverted to the older Delta Force series (Land Warrior, Black Hawk Down) which do not require you to log into Novaworld for Multiplayer. These games still seem active on the servers.
Speaking of that, I'm surprised to see that DF is not even mentioned in the gaming forums.
