Server with two ip addresses

I have one nic with an non-internet ip address. Then I VPN to our "gateway", which gives me an internet ip address.

But everytime I try to setup an global server up, it keeps using my "first" ip address, which is a "private" ip address.

What can I do to fix this.

make sure in the bindings for tcp/ip that the second card is set for the first bind spot otherwise it will use whatever card is first in the binding order and use its ip address
