::Sim Battle Rules::

Sim Battle is a writing game, and activity - and the main focus of the boards. Each board member creates their own character (or several, perhaps) and uses them in a simulated battle. It's like a writing version of Fight Club.

The first thing you need to do is create a character. Now, many of us began by using a character already known through a video game, anime, or movie… way back. If you feel like you've come to a roadblock on making your character, it is okay to start off with an unoriginal character until you get familiar with how things work. However, it is always encouraged that you do not "copy" the character, and be as creative as possible. Dragon Ball Z Characters are a bad choice, usually; as they have been over-used by people with absolutely no creativity whatsoever. People are tired of Gotenks and Vegeta running around using "Kamehameha"… allright?

Of course, my personal suggestion would be to always go out on a limb with your own style, your own character, and your own mind. You'll always do best with your own material… but by all means, use the vets here as an example if you get stuck.

First, in your character, they can't be unbeatable. This rule has been used in loopholes where people have had characters that were invincible, but still beatable. That's okay, as long as you're fair. Again, please away from the Dragon-Ball Z thing.

Give your character your own distinct look in appearance, and think out a history for them. Make him/her interesting… and if at all possible, give them a reason to fight. Give them a unique personality.

When you've finished creating a character bio, please post it in the Fighter Profiles topic so everyone can refer there if they have questions about your character. If you would like to keep some things a secret about your character, please post a bio anyway, including things that are not secret - such as the name, appearance, and perhaps the weapon they obviously hold.

Before creating your character, or Sim Battling… please take into consideration the Ten Commandments.

The Ten Commandments of Sim Battle

1. No Destroying the Planet/ Arena
2. No Excessive Healing (3 times is considered courteous)
3. No unbeatable characters (immortal is okay, as long as they are beatable.)
4. No Extreme Modding (Meaning extreme controlling. Make sure any character controlling is courteous and something that character would probably do in a situation. Do not make them do, or say stupid things.)
5. Reply in a timely manner (three days considered courteous)
6. No overall cheapness (throwing 50 shurikens, shooting 10 bullets, attacking to many times in one turn, shooting 100 rays of light... that kind of thing.)
7. No Ignoring Damage
8. Be Creative (Learning from what others do is encouraged here, but your own ideas flare creativity from other writers as well... it keeps things exciting)
9. Do your best (Always try to get better. Increasing your vocabulary as simply as using a thesaures to replace common words is an excellent tactic.)
10. Have fun with it (When you're using and expanding skills, and being creative, it should be fun. This is a game, and don't ever confuse it otherwise. I love to use this as an everyday practice tool for my writing, but it's a GAME. Don't get caught up in the emotion of it.)

These rules are not set in stone… they are simply a guide to make things as fun as possible for those playing this game. If two people begin a battle agreeing upon different rules as posted here, then it's okay. There are no punishments or repricussions for disobeying a rule here. If you have broken a rule, you will probably be asked to edit the post. Simple enough.

Ideas

Ideas for giving your character power. These are just suggestions, and things that others have done, that may be a guide to you on how to do it in your own way.

Magic/Elements - Magic is a great way to bring strange and powerful attacks into play. The Final Fantasy style spells seem to be popular... but if you've got a different idea, then try it out!

Character Race - If your character is of an alien or fantastic race, it could naturally possess different powers. For instance, if your character is half-dragon, what type of powers and strength would it possess? What if your character was blessed by a god or angel?

Rank or Training - If your character has achieved a rank or specialized training, for example, a Holy Knight, Blade Master, Samurai, Dark Assassin, or Gunslinger… what type of powers would come into play? What type of History?

Weapons - People love to have special weapons designed strictly for their character. These weapons often have a historical, emotional, or magical significance. It is deeply disrespectful to destroy someone's weapon, and most people use ones that are "indestructible", so don't go that direction in battle.

Transformations - Transformations are an excellent way to give your character different advantages in battle. However, take in mind the healing rule… if your transformation fully or partially heals your character, then treat it as a heal. Otherwise, the damage carries over. Many possibilities are available with transformations.

Other attributes - Is your character Psychic? Gifted in one way or another? There are infinite possibilities here, as well. Perhaps your character hates to kill. Perhaps your character can fly. The list goes on and on…

Anyways, again - good luck on your Sim Battle journey. Try and take a look at some other battles, and if you have any questions, there are plenty of vets that are probably willing to train you. If you want to get started, just post an Open Challenge and wait for someone to accept. Have fun!
