I got semi-kicked out. My mom yelled at her mom, and I told my mom, extremely calmly, that her anger would solve nothing, with an air of smug superiority. I think I was channeling Obiwan. That guy's always being smug. They "offered" to take me back to my place today, and I readily accepted, since I was rather tired of being harassed 40% of the time and ignored 40% of the time. 20% of the time was fine, I guess, that was mostly time spent with my dad.

So now I'm home alone on Christmas. Wooooooo. Better than being there. I constantly had to defend myself and my friends. It was real fucking annoying.

My brother and his wife were actually sick, and my other brother left town to visit his inlaws. So I ended up spending Christmas with my mom and step dad. Not terribly exciting. I got two flashlights and an umbrella for Christmas this year!

I love how the Christmas is the most depressing day of the year, the pitiable human beings around me make me feel good inside and there's also loads of free space for self-pity. Just most wondrous time of the year.

Ah, the joys of holiday family reunions. Here is a quick guide for next year:

Lesson 1: relatives are always right
Lesson 2: don't steer the direction towards a topic that you know will devolve into a fight
lesson 3: make sure everyone who doesn't get grumpy from alcohol drinks a lot

I dodged a bullet this time. Inadvertently said something that prompted a remark which then lead to an unpleasant discussion. Little brither saved the day with a well-timed joke. It's like running through a minefield with your pants on fire.

I always fail to observe rules 1 and 3. I'm pretty good at rule 2. Unfortunately, they all completely ignore rule 2 and start making grotesquely homophobic (and racist, transphobic, anti-Semitic, misogynistic, etc) comments about various people. Then I fail to observe rule 1 because fuck that, and here we are.

Rule 3 is hard, because my family is rather conservative with their alcohol as well as their social views, and rarely have more than 2 drinks. I guess I could sneak it in, but this is probably the last xmas I'll be obligated to spend with them.

Kudos to your brother. Glad you escaped that.

Mmm, yes, I deal with plenty of that just because it's the south and over half the people here are practically dickheads by design. That's why I'm leaving as soon as I can

Smart move. I'm in the meddle bit of the state, which is somewhere between places like San Francisco and the South in those respects, leaning towards the latter. Lots of rural areas. A lot different from what a lot of people seem to think when they hear "California".
