Let's say this is the scenario:
You're drinking your tea/beer at home, everything is nice, when the lights fuck out. Let's say a random black-out, nothing out of the ordinary.
Then there's the sound of some random plane flying overhead, but this time, the sound doesn't fade to hell as they usually do, instead, the jet engines sound clearer and louder, to finally crash about 2 clicks away from you.
Shit start blowing up in the distance, and finally, a huge mushroom cloud, close enough to be seen, but far enough to not pose any threat to your direct surrounding.
What's your reaction? What would be the first objective, goal, though or whatever?

My hometown is nestled more or less between two nuclear power plants. Though they're not terribly close (one is about 20km away, the other is 35km), it's still a little unsettling to think what could happen if one, or all ten reactors, go kaboom...
Outside of nuclear catastrophe, I guess I could bunker down and wait for everyone else to tire themselves out before making my move. There's usually enough food in my house to cover me for a few days, enough time to wait to raid the houses of neighbours who fled for food and other resources (maybe they've left some tasty pets behind). If all else fails, go berserker...

Honestly, would you really want to live after all that shit? Having to fight day to day, being paranoid about everyone else, and never knowing if there's every going to be a way out.
Get as far away as possible to avoid nuclear fallout. Even if you say it's safe, I wouldn't know that.
Star Wars: Empire at War Rogues Since our days are now numbered, I feel I can finally admit to something I doubt any of you knew. ROGUES WAS A LIE ALL ALONG! IT WAS NEVER GOING TO HAPPEN! IT WAS NOTHING MORE THAN THE PIPE DREAM OF AN AMATEUR IN OVER HIS HEAD!

Pretty clear cut, IMO.
I don't think it's clear cut, the human brain is pretty stubborn, it wants to survive no matter how depressed you might feel (well there is a breaking point ), it's an instinct hard-wired into almost all of us. We've endured nuclear catastrophes before.
Think of how many dark times humans have been through, granted none of them are nuclear; but we've endured the dark ages, the crusades, the ice age, plagues, famine, natural disasters, etc. I really doubt nuclear fallout would be the thing that makes most humans want to kill themselves, even with all the horrible mutations that would occur.
Anyway, I'd have a sleepover with RGC.

More food for me, to be honest.
I've always thought that assuming soil isn't contaminated, my region would potentially be one of the most survivable in all the world. If you've got two hands and some time you won't have a shortage of food living in the American midwest. There are a surprising amount of people here who have a very in depth knowledge about our wind power systems, so it wouldn't be a long shot that they could be functional and even maintained in the event of some catastrophe on a global or national level, depending on what kind of catastrophe that is.
I honestly wouldn't doubt that the quality of life in my region would improve, since the land would inevitably be more evenly divided and already could (And does) support the United States, let alone the region.
Of course if it was some kind of apocalypse that harmed the nature of the climate in the way of a large scale nuclear war, or some kind of terrestrial or extra-terrestrial climate change; then it would probably be better just to go out with guns blazing since you wouldn't survive very long anyway.
