Does anybody really know why? Is anybody even trying to do something about it?
Obviously everything has its time -- but there doesn't seem to me that there is any real reason as to why this forum has shrunk and continues to shrink. Yes old members leave and move on, I understand that. But what I don't understand is the lack of new members coming in and staying. I mean the Gamefront/Filefront network sites seem to still be doing fairly well... I don't have access to information on site traffic (so this is speculation) but the Gamefront website itself also seems to be fairly popular...? So why not the forums? I just don't understand it, have those in the managment of Gamefront and its sister websites completely abandoned the idea of advertising? Do they simply not care about building a strong support network for their websites?
I've made this thread simply to put my thoughts to words, and to get the opinions of others. So DISCUSS.
If there was already a thread like this somewhere in the last year of my inactivity, my apologies.

I think its not just this forum which has suffered from the evolution of the internet, but all forums in general. Facebook, myspace and other social networking sites have eaten a large chunk off all forums' activity lately.
Member of almost all of the forums I'm a member of, once in a while create topics like this, wondering what has happened to the forum. At first I also used to wonder, but after a long discussion and statistical analysis, I have learned what I have posted here.

Forums are becoming a thing of the past, to be honest... Only exception I've seen to this are forum sites that offer up download content through the forum itself, or support forums for various specific games/companies.

I'm on five different forums excluding this one with extremely high traffic - the average post count on one of them is 17k... Forums like Escapist for example, are high in traffic.
This post is probably full of absurdly controversial stuff, try not to take it too seriously.

I don't really agree with the whole Forums are a thing of the past, Facebook/twitter reason to be honest. It seems to me that by and large, Gaming Forums have been the only ones affected. When I look at other forums that don't have to do with gaming, their membership and usage is still really good.
Stands to reason why this Forum; which specialized in Gaming from the beginning, is tanking.
I've come of the opinion that a lot of gaming forums are suffering not because of social media, but because of the new generation of gamers -- and a new generation of gaming in general. Why go to a external/third party forum when there are things like Steam? A place where your games, game support and forums are all wrapped up in one shiny package.

I think I disagree with this. A lot of forums which cater to gaming are active and high traffic. IGN, Gamespot, etc; they all have active forums. The reason these forums aren't active is because they're so distanced from the main page. Doesn't help that Gamefront is also largely active on Youtube and Facebook and not as active on their actual site.

Schofield stated was I was about to say.
It's not something that isn't noticed. There's a lot on the table right now that needs an overhaul and we can only work on one thing at a time (due to budget/time constraints.) But it's definitely something I'm keeping them aware of.

How many of those forums (the active ones) have a mature and reasonable userbase like we have in here?
I mean its no achievement getting 100 posts/topic per day. The real feat is to post 10 REAL topics per day. Its the quality that matters, not the quantity.
Here, at least we have quality, if not high traffic.
