I'm not very good at that. I can produce some whistling sounds, but I don't manage to get a good range of them, so I can whistle any melodies.

Re: Whistling.

Try as I might, I simply cannot exhale whistle. I can, however, inhale whistle. I do this my pressing my tongue against the roof of my mouth leaving a tiny gap, puckering up my lips (almost like for a kiss) and inhaling.

When I fill the gap with spit, I can do a sort of warbling whistle thing. Made a few people think there was a bird in the room a couple times =p

I always thought whistling was genetic in that some people could easily whistle and others simply couldn't. I've never been able to whistle myself and had always put it down to my genes.

I thought so too... Thought there could be a way to be physically unable to whistle. So far I've been able to get really faint notes while moving around my lips/tounge, but it's like I, at some point, manage to get the right 'position', but can't really hold it :p

Re: Whistling.

Sometimes I can whistle, sometimes I can't. Most of the work seems to be done by my lips, maybe that's my problem. My dad and my grandpa have no problem whistling (Once on vacation I heard my dad refer to my Grandpa as "The Mad Whistler" or something to that effect because he was always whistling a tune as he walked around the cabin.) but I just can't seem to get it down. Maybe it's something to do with my eternally dry lips...

Like Lindale's video? :lulz:

Kinda same here, mom's awesome at whistling, so is one of my brothers... Though won't your lips dry normally while whistling because of the air you blow out?

Re: Whistling.

I have to whistle the same way Nem does. No other method, despite repeated attempts from other people to tutor me (some people need hobbies I guess), works. Which sucks, because it's unreliable, doesn't have a good range (deep notes are impossible) and not very loud. And it sounds dumb.

Buy a whistle, would be my advice.
