I cant find that video clip

as for topic. Guns are fine so long as they are not used to kill someone who has not threatened you with a weapon of there own.

Guns give anyone who has one more power than they would naturally have. Whether the "natural order" of the strong dominating the weak is a good thing might be debatable. Whether everyone should get more power than they normally have is debatable. So, who gets trusted with the power given by the gun? In the USA, it's non-felons. In the UK, it's the police and a few people who take the time to apply for a permit.

Of course, this is just speaking in very broad terms. I'm not trying to point out the benefits of gun ownership, or the problems with gun restriction, just stating a simple fact that a gun is a lot better than your muscles are at poking a hole in things from a distance, regardless of your strength.

Well, according to Eddie Izzard, Guns dont kill people, Monkeys kill people (if your stupid enough to give one a gun...and then withhold bananas...)

Seriously, if Mr Heston is wiling to experiment, I would love to shut him in a room with a Chimp wielding a Colt, Glock, Browning... any type of gun... then youd see...

To be serious for a minute, though - gun control is a sticky subject in the good old US...because you have so bloody many of them! Also, the constitution does not mention anywhere that it is an Americans god given right to wield fire arms... it says "arms" could be a Beretta 92F, could be a Barrett 50cal, couls be a Cavalry Sabre, could be a pointy rock tied to a stick...could be a effing Nuclear bomb... all counts as arms...

Its not the control of guns thats the problem... Its the wording of the constitution, the various (and there are lots of them) state laws refering to weapons permits, who can own one etc... and the sad fact that human life is valued so little by some... Its easy to take a life with a gun - too damn easy, and that de values the worth if a life, if its so easy to take away, then whats the problem? Its convenience killing, christ! we have convenience stores, fast food, drive throughs...drive bys...

I dont really know where this arguement is going, but I know Im on to something... I just wish I knew what it was...

Guns don't kill people but people do so much more easily with guns. Then again some people need killing.

Assuming you're just looking for "simplistic" answers (as like you pointed that's why you did't post in in the pub but I'd advice you to take a look at the gun debates there anyway):

This. People will always threaten, injure or kill other people, guns are a tool to allow this (more reasily then say a knife, fork, baseball bet or bare hands). A tool that has ranged capabilities, works fast, easy reasonably accurate and very effective = win. Easier to use also means easier to abuse or mess up though.

Also: People are idiots. Because people can be ever so stupid I support regulations to protect people from themselves (and others stupid people).

This is why you get idiot kids killing their parents after having their Xbox taken away from them.

In certain neighbourhoods it may be necessary to have some sort of deterrant to prevent, say, being robbed. But having a gun to defend your home from intrusion is not a solution to the problem -- the solution is to clean up the neighbourhood.
