Nah, teachers bang members of the opposite sex too. All of the teachers under 30 (where I live, at least) are all parents within their first three two years of teaching.

There's somewhere in the region of another 30 per 1000 on top of that who get abortions IIRC which’d bring it to around one in every fourteen on a national level.

Realistically they're going to start screwing, they're horny teenagers without much else to do and sex is a recreational activity; in both senses. You could provide free abortions and confidentiality and most of the births would probably go away; or provide them with interesting things to do in school - other than each other - so that they didn't end up fooling around to the same degree. Let's face it they're obviously not getting any sort of decent parenting/entertainment at home. The stereotype of wealth and age of pregnancy is actually borne out by statistics. But that would require a re-examination of the education structure along less trivial lines than is beneficial to a politician's success, you can’t just slap an after school club in and call it fixed.

I bet if they looked around they'd find similar numbers around the country. The teen pop culture is dominated by sexuality. Most of the teen girls I see around Colorado are prominent in their ho-wear and the boys who seem to follow them around. I don't see how this is surprising to anyone, really the so-called "concerned adults" make it a daily point to sell sex in all its forms to our young people and then get all shocked when teenies are having babies, and then get even more shocked with parents that pull stunts like "Balloon Boy" or why shaken baby syndrome sky rockets, etc., etc..

I haven't seen anything so discouraging since the "pregnancy pact" last year. There definitely needs to be a shift towards more comprehensive education, and easier access to contraceptives.

In my four years of high school, I remember only a single pregnancy with a student body of around 1,600.
