I didn't watch the whole thing. But what I did watch and what stands out in my mind are the immediate calls of racism against those who criticized MJ. I think that is uncalled for and has always bothered me. Granted, the criticizing comments were harsh, nothing was said about MJ's racial background.

I don't get your meaning? The bleaching of his skin is the second most defining aspect of Michael Jackson's life.

1. He was a larger than life Pop Star, who was compared to Elvis Presley.

2. He denied his ethnicity by bleaching his skin. A very common issue in America, and one that apparently still exists today.

Who, O'Reilly, or Dr. Hill?

That video seemed to be off kilter. Dr. Hill made a valid point about Michael Jackson's career being a racial issue.

However, I don't feel that this guy should be heralded as the next successor to Rev. Martin Luther King Jr.

Were there no other artists aside from Michael Jackson that had accomplished the same feat of having white America purchase labels by black artists?

It is a matter of degrees, then again I didn't live through that time. I just don't believe Michael Jackson accomplished all that much.

Edit: Oh, and I've recently seen the Michael Jackson Number Ones DVD. While watching it, two young children were debating as to the sex of Michael Jackson. They thought he was a girl.

The thought occurs to me that Michael Jackson was an experiment. Its almost as if Michael tried to remove all aspects of his humanity, in order to be universally human. Completely without race, or gender.

You think people remember Hendrix the man or Hendrix the cultural icon? This is what people do, they cannibalise selected parts of the past in order to justify the delusions of the present. They claim to remember Jackson but tear apart what he was in the process of enshrining the parts of his memory they like. What people are enshrining here is the quantity of stuff he shifted, how many people bought X, how many people enjoyed X. For the majority it's not even his music they're talking about, not really; it's numbers. A rather sad footnote in history.

And he didn't BLEACH his skin to DENY his ethnicity. He had a SKIN CONDITION that caused his skin to start getting white spots all over, so he decided to fix it by changing his skin tone.

He accomplished alot in his heyday, but the sun set on the good parts of his career abount 20 years ago.

If he died 20 years ago, there would be far fewer negative things to say about him.

But how do you know he had a "skin condition?" What proof can you provide? Because some doctors (paid in full by MJ) said he did to save MJ's reputation? Or perhaps from MJ himself? Maybe it's the truth, or maybe it's not. Perhaps he did bleach his skin. No one on this forum will know the full truth. That's why it's not an issue with me. But it is annoying constantly hearing about an irrelevant issue in his life: skin color.

That isnt even a factor in my thinking. There is enough bullshit already to call MJ out on.

Altho, his death certificate says "black". Not sure how they can justify that one...
