Pen and paper D&D (and computer D&D) doesn't work like that. WHat you discribe their is WoW and WoW sucks. Way too arcady, I prefer the more hardcore RPGs.

Edit: If you are mean you want to know what my favourit type of character class was (AD&D: Fighter, Paldin, Ranger, Mage, Specalist Wizard, Cleric, Druid, Sepcailized Priest, Thief, Bard D&D 3rd edition: Babarian, Bard, Cleic, Druid, Fighter, Monk, Paladin, Ranger, Rogue, Sorcerer, Wizard) it depended on the campaign and which classes I played just recenntly. Generally I prefer(ed) to play a fighter, cleric or wizard. But I tried out the other classes aswell except for Bards.

As for favourit race: Would depent on the class I picked (and campaign etc.) but most often human, half-elf or elf. In (A)D&D you have Dwarf, Elf, Half-elf, Gnome, Halfling, Human, Half-orc and a load of additional races and sub races (which may require addittional manuals).

The only one possible time I saw people playing pen and paper D&D was in an Algebra 2 class. They mainly played Magic: The Gathering, though. Actually joined in one of their games.

I hated how for these games whenever you wanted something extra you had to pay through the teeth for another book for rules to describe it.

Or just make it up. That is the beautiful thing about pen and paper RPGs, you cna make up anything you want for it.
