Anyway, those homes don't really look too bad to live in. Problem is that they are pretty much the only ones there, with nothing around. Considering that, it could've been a lot worse. Imagine them building a whole neighbourhood and then find out no one wants to live there.
The houses themselves don't look bad, imo. Not too small and alright for the weather around there. Maybe a bit flamable from what I can see.

The Marine Corps.

We never fight wars in nice places. Always shithole climates. Ever been to 29 Palms area near Joshua Tree Natnl Park? Ever been to Marine Corps Logistics Base Barstow? God damn man, its like the parts of simcity that you never checked up on because they were too far to the side near the edge of the building space.

Twentynine Palms in the Mojave desert used to be an Army training center in the 50's, then they declared it uninhabitable and moved out. The Marine Corps bought the land for shit cheap and moved right in.
