Bad webhost Implihosting... what shall I do?

Last Monday my forum crashed. I was told it was because we were being DDOS'ed, I later learn it was due to a HD failure.

I lost everything I had on the server, because Implihosting do not do backups.

I'm pissed off with them. I asked for a refund they said, "we don't do refunds, have a nice day".

Fortunately I was able to restore the forum, but I'm still down £60.

You recommendations, dear peoplez of Filefrontz?

I thought about killing them all, but that would be illegal.

Next suggestion?

Search for another host. Byethost is one of the best I've ever seen - paid as well as free.

I have a another host already. I have a yearning for payback. £60 worth of payback.

Where are their offices? 60 Pounds worth of payback could surely make some windows messy or some hallways stinky.

Their offices are in their bedroom at their parents house.

Then why would you go with them in the first place? =p

Buy some gasoline, dump it in the guy's room and watch it burn. Make sure you somehow fireproof the walls and door if you don't want the actual house to burn down.

Well since they quite clearly guarantee data backup facilities prior to purchase, by not providing those facilities then for all (legal) intents and purposes that's a breach of contract. Flag trading standards (or their local equivalent).

If they really are as bent as the contents of Uri Geller's silver draw (five minutes worth of googling says they are) they'll get bitchslapped right in the one thing they care about - their bank account.

Though it should be said, if you want to play within the system, your options are limited since the system is made specifically to screw people in situations not entirely unlike yours. http://forums.squirrel-banter.co.uk/...ies/shifty.gif

Some PC magazines invite their readers to send in stories about bad customer service which they then publish in their next issue.

That would be an easy way to get back at those people.

A good idea. If nothing else, they may loose some custom.

When you originally were hosted with them, was there a contract or anything that you had to sign (or similar)? Its a long shot, but it may be worth going through that if you haven't already, looking for something they may have missed, which could enable you to get back your £60, and maybe more?

Short of that, I've no other ideas.

Sue them, and use tornado gaming or hostgator as your host.

Was it just you effected? Anyway, if they don't provide any type of Backup don't even bother paying them anymore. Find a decent host. This one seems like they don't care about their customers.

I second that!
check to see if it's a reorcurring(damn spelling) problem to other people, almost like the red ring of death on the 360. May give you some leverage.

Re: Bad webhost Implihosting... what shall I do?

I already moved to a new host and they are doing a stirling job right now.

I have been away this weekend and resolved to forget about this and put the Implihosting drama behind me.

Then Giz linked me to this: http://forums.digitalpoint.com/showthread.php?t=1218843

Seems I'm not the only one who has had trouble, and the fact he automatically assumed it was me is a total admission of guilt.

I did email the guy on Saturday to be told they do not do refunds and they have cancelled my account as requested, even though I never cancelled it. :/

They're scammers. I think that about sums it up.

Just an update:

Implihosting Review - Web Hosting Talk - The largest, most influential web hosting community on the Internet

These guys think I should get a refund.

Re: Bad webhost Implihosting... what shall I do?

Ok, burn the whole damn house down. You should get a full refund, but you probably won't ever see one without taking legal action. The legal action is going to be more then 60 euros anyway, so it's really a lose-lose situation.

Re: Bad webhost Implihosting... what shall I do?

Refund potentially inbound. Will confirm.

I got my refund. All is well with the world once more.

Did you mutilate them until they gave it to you, or did you threaten legal action?

Bad publicity and a hint of legal action. Second Google hit for "Implihosting" is my review: Implihosting Review - Web Hosting Talk - The largest, most influential web hosting community on the Internet

Nice work on sticking to your guns, and congrats on the refund.

To be honest I would just be a bit more careful with less well known hosts and their TOS. But meh, it turned out alright in the end! :)

Re: Bad webhost Implihosting... what shall I do?

As a final irony, the owner of Implihosting is now banned from digitialpoint. Oh justice, you are a sweet, sweet mistress.
