Some help with the amazones please

I'm trying to buy a few things from amazon.co.uk. There are 4 items I'd like to buy and it is possible to buy two times 2 with the "frequently bought together" option, from that option I get a little rebate.

So I add those two options of two items each to the shopping basket, the price is now calculated correctly. If I proceed to checkout amazon changes the prices to the standard prices of each item - the discount from the "frequently bought together" option disappears.

Any idea why this happens or how to avoid this?

No idea, as I've never bought from Amazon...

I was going to say try buying them separately, but if the discount doesn't outweigh the extra shipping costs, thats kind of a stupid idea.

Maybe call customer support?

Amazon's worked fine for me, I've gotten a fair few books off of it, painlessly and not a long wait.

But, unfortunately, I'm not familiar enough to conjure up a solution for you.

Apparently it has nothing to do with the "frequently bought together"-thing. Adding each item separetly to the basket results in the same price, but during checkout the discount disappears anyway. I suspect it has something to do with the VAT.

I sent them an e-mail, calling their support is too expensive from over here.

Thanks for the help though :)

edit: Nevermind, I figured it out. Apparently they have to apply German VAT which accounts for the difference.
