Then they rebuild the file and place it on your hard disk.
A download accelerator is like a mercenary force; it brings in a few hundred extra tiny minions, only these minions are angry, smoke a lot of cigars, beat the shit out of your regular minions and get very pissed off over very insignificant things. When the tubes break and your download pauses, for example, they will clamber out into the 'real world', find your account manager from your ISP, and slowly dismantle him instead of the file.
Download managers obviously don't work for you because you fail to pay the tiny, mercenary minions enough money and they go and work for somebody else instead.
That's the theory anyway. In practice it has something to do with automatic mirror searching and downloading files in multiple segments simultaneously thus saturating your bandwidth. They are somewhat handy even if you don't notice or need a speed increase, as most of them can resume downloading a file if it was interrupted, and can manage bandwidth usage so that you can continue to browse the internet uninterrupted. I don't use them because they suck donkey balls, however. |
