Tattoos

Have any (what are they)? Planning to get one? Your thoughts on tattoos? I'm supposed to get one by the end of the month but I'm still unsure what exactly I want tattooed.

Penguin_Unit June 7th, 2008 11:40 AM

Re: Tattoos

I don't have one, and I don't want one. It makes you look kind of like Dragonelf, except even more fearsome.

You sure you want one? You know you can't get rid of one once you have it... :lookaround:

Odessa-086 June 7th, 2008 11:42 AM

Re: Tattoos

I know. But I've always wanted one. Besides, it's not like it will cover half of my body, it will only be a few centimeters. Just so I know I made one of my long-time wishes come true. The fact that I'm normally hideously phobic of needles, going for one speaks for itself. It's just a matter of what exactly I'll get.

Re: Tattoos

Green Dragon on my left arm. I got it when I was 17. 11 years later and it's still there! :o

Penguin_Unit June 7th, 2008 11:46 AM

Re: Tattoos

Also, getting one is somewhat painful...keep that in mind.

Giz June 7th, 2008 11:47 AM

Re: Tattoos

That all depends on where (as in body part) you get it really. It wasn't very painful when I got mine.

Penguin_Unit June 7th, 2008 12:00 PM

Re: Tattoos

It probably depends on the person too.

Odessa-086 June 7th, 2008 12:00 PM

Re: Tattoos

Well, it's painful if you're getting it along your spine or anywhere where the bone is fairly close to the surface. But I intend to get mine on my shoulder so it shouldn't be too bad.

Re: Tattoos

We had a thread JUST like this somewhere...

Octovon June 7th, 2008 01:41 PM

Re: Tattoos

I've thought about getting one for a long while, only the permanency of tattoos has kept me from making an absolute decision on what I should get.

Odessa-086 June 7th, 2008 01:43 PM

Re: Tattoos

Well, since I've been told it's best to make new thread rather than reviving an old one, I made this, to be on the safe side.

-Section- June 7th, 2008 02:00 PM

Re: Tattoos

I can't keep it straight anymore anyways. Its either silly to make a new thread because they have the other one... people get yelled at for that, or its bad to revive and old one. *sigh*

But no. I don't have any tats, and I probably won't. I'll stick to the sticker ones. They're more in my price range. :P

I have a wave, a sun and three flowers filling out a quarter of my back. And then I have an ugly tribal on my right shoulder.

Odessa-086 June 7th, 2008 02:03 PM

Re: Tattoos

I don't think I'd ever get anything tribal. Too many people already have it and it has little to no personal meaning.

Steakboy June 7th, 2008 02:05 PM

Re: Tattoos

I don't have one on me (don't really have anything that special as to place it on my body), but I've bought one for someone else, and designed two of them for my friends. Haha, now THAT is pressure, designing something that a person wants permanently affixed to their body. One was a cross with a love banner, the other an oak leaf in the shape of a heart with a mom and dad banner.

Odessa-086 June 7th, 2008 02:07 PM

Re: Tattoos

Maybe I should get you to design mine? ;)

N88TR June 7th, 2008 04:08 PM

Re: Tattoos

I've always wanted one, some big tribal thing on my bicep. But atm they're not worth a tat, so until then i'll just keep curling and benching.

My parents freaked [quietly] when I told em I was thinking of getting one. Every now and then I do that to them, scare em a bit, keep them on their toes. I'm terrified of needles so it'll be a confidence challenge as well, another reason why i want to do it.

Odessa-086 June 7th, 2008 04:12 PM

Re: Tattoos

Pretty much the same for me. Glad to know I'm not the only one scared of needles around here

Haha, ok, that is one thing that has never had any impact on my decision, but my parents too are not big fans. My mother basically told me she would disown me if I ever had one

Re: Tattoos

I also like controlled pain, pain that i can control and a tattoo would be like that, a struggle to keep with the pain and not ignore it.

Get a "Tat" that says "Like my tattoo?"

Odessa-086 June 7th, 2008 05:39 PM

Haha, would be funny, but it isn't something I'd like to have stuck with me until I die

Do the ones in cereal boxes count?

Re: Tattoos

Well, there's a tattoo I wanted for as long as I wanted to get one - a crow across my back. But I already have the concept of it, seeing how The Crow is by far my favourite movie, I'll get the image of the crow from the poster/dvd cover. Other than that, I guess Halo is very important to me for quite some time now. By that, I'd go for something like a number, a Reclaimer glyph or a barcode. Seeing how the crow would be quite a large tattoo, I'll wait until I get that done since it will be quite expensive. Something smaller, such as Halo-inspired tattoo would come first.

Day_Man June 7th, 2008 05:49 PM

Re: Tattoos

Those seem like things that you would tire of with age.

Odessa-086 June 7th, 2008 05:52 PM

Re: Tattoos

Not of the crow. I loved that movie ever since I was little and I only loved it more with age. Besides, it's something that means very much to me and is one of the things I share with my fiance. And Halo...Halo changed who I am, almost completely. May be sad, but it's true.

Surely that would be 10 years later?

17 when you got it, your profile states your age as 27, thats 10. ;)

Then again, if you think about it, if you baught loads of the sticky ones, eventually, the price may add up, therefore you'd be better off getting a proper one anyway? =p

Oh, and isn't there a procedure for removing tattoos? I'm pretty sure there is. Leaves the area red for a while, but I'm pretty sure it is possible to have them removed.

It is possible to remove them, yeah, but I hear it's very expensive and very painful

And it burns the skin.

I've thought about it, but never really pulled through with it. Mainly because I'm also undecided as to what I'd get. I was thinking of my name as a barcode either on my neck or my shoulder, but....eh, I don't know, seems silly if I think about it for a while.

Odessa-086 June 8th, 2008 04:28 AM

Re: Tattoos

I guess it's one of those things you're not supposed to overthink. But of course, you can't not think about it at all and go through with it.

Admiral Donutz June 8th, 2008 05:46 AM

Re: Tattoos

I don't have a tattoo and I will never get one.

They don't appeal to me and when you grow older and your skin ages the quality of the tattoo doesn't exactly improve either. So no, no tattoos for me.

As for reviving or making new threads: it's a fine line between bumping a thread that has become inactive but hasn't "died" yet (it's an ancient thread). It also depends on forum activity.

I managed to spot just one other tattoo thread, Most ridiculous tattoo ever, which had its last post in February.

The tattoo he is describing is pretty cool but i'd get it on my back and not my arm... more room back there.

Calico Jack Flag on My right shoulder.
Jigsaw piece on my lower left back.
Broken stitched up heart over my heart.

Got a large dragon on my left arm (sorta see it in avatar) and a skull with a mullet on my right forearm.

Re: Tattoos

I would suggest getting one that has a meaning, like a name of your family member or wife.

Re: Tattoos

I've always wanted a tattoo on my face, It would either be a twisty pattern coming out of the side of my eye, or maybe dots on my forehead. Something like that unfortunately ill never go through with, i guess i don't have the balls. But sometime in the future, once my body stops growing too much Ill get one. My second place of preference is my wrist or palm.

I'm planning on getting a design across my back and extending to my upper arms. Something I can hide easily if I have to get a job in the cubicle or an office. i was hoping to get it by the end of the year.

They can be lasered off I believe. Costs something but not that terrible.

I myself was considering something tribal, since I tend to find those the most pleasing to be honest. But I don't know, just didn't get it in the end.

So dark angelesque :)

Vasili June 9th, 2008 03:56 AM

Re: Tattoos

I see it as a body art. But the problem is if I ever got them I would be covered in my favorite bands and all sorts of random crap. You can get lasers but it leaves a horrible scaring and it hurts like fuck too. I suggest you really just think through it and realize that its there for the rest of your life and when you are old, it's gonna look saggy.

Flodgy June 9th, 2008 04:28 AM

Re: Tattoos

Some tattoos can be great, but a majority of those I see out there are simply try hard pieces of crap that people had wrapped around their bicep and so on. In my opinion there is nothing cool about having a generic piece of barbed wire around your arm.

A few mates of mine in my old triathlon club had their number and squad names tattooed on, guess it was useful as they never had to have it drawn in with textures again. :p

In the end I opted for makeshift temporary ones as I didn't know if I was going to stick with it or not. But their ones turned out pretty cool.

When you're old your skin is gonna look saggy, if that doesn't depress you enough, tattoo's won't dent your self esteem that much, lol, at least thats how I look at it, as someone with tattoos, and planning to have many more.

You should get a smiley face so when you are old it will be unhappy. Think ahead my man.

Re: Tattoos

When I get older and move out of the house, I will probably get some tattoo going all over my left arm and going down my back. Why? Because no one will be stopping me, and because I just want a tattoo.

Id like to get one of a barcode on my inner forearm. And when its run under a scanner, it would actually read as something.
