Sounds good. ;)

Though I prefer my self-chosen name, tyrannicida. It's latin for "assassin of a tyrant".

I take it that that is a good thing?

It's Sed. My parents felt like being original. I think I'm probably the only person in my country with that name, maybe even in the whole of Europe. o_O

I definitely haven't heard of that variation. It is original and unique, though. I like it ;)

CHRISTOPHER

Gender: Masculine

Usage: English

Pronounced: KRIS-to-fur

Means "bearing Christ", derived from Late Greek Χριστος (Christos) combined with φερω (phero) "to bear, to carry". Christopher was the legendary saint who carried the young Jesus across a river. He is the patron saint of travellers. Another famous bearer was Christopher Columbus, the explorer who reached the West Indies in the 15th century.

JAMES

Gender: Masculine

Usage: English, Biblical

Pronounced: JAYMZ

English form of the Late Latin Jacomus which was derived from Ιακωβος (Iakobos), the New Testament Greek form of יַעֲקֹב (Ya'aqov) (see JACOB). This is the name of two apostles in the New Testament. The first was Saint James the Greater, the apostle John's brother, who was beheaded by Herod Agrippa in the Book of Acts. The second was James the Lesser, son of Alphaeus. Another James (known as James the Just) is also mentioned in the Bible as being the brother of Jesus.

Kings of England and Scotland have borne this name. Other famous bearers include the inventor of the steam engine James Watt, the explorer Captain James Cook, and the novelist and poet James Joyce.

My second name is also Peter.
My third name is Wallace, which as most will know was (and is) the name of a well-known Scottish clan, famous because of Scottish freedom fighter William Wallace.
My American grandfather's name, whom I sadly never met, was William Wallace.

Re: Meaning of your name?

I believe David means beloved in Hebrew.

Speer April 10th, 2008 01:22 PM

Re: Meaning of your name?

Yep...
Possibly derived from Hebrew דוד (dvd) meaning "beloved". David was the second and greatest of the kings of Israel, ruling in the 10th century BC. Several stories about him are told in the Old Testament, including his defeat of Goliath, a giant Philistine. Jesus was supposedly descended from him.Famous bearers of this name include the 5th-century patron saint of Wales, two kings of Scotland, empiricist philosopher David Hume, and explorer David Livingstone. This is also the name of the hero of Charles Dickens' semiautobiographical novel 'David Copperfield'.

Marie.

And no, it's more of a lineage thing. My dad wanted me to have a French middle name, and my mom's middle name was French, so he chose that one. My mother wanted my middle name to be Ann, thus Ann(e)-Marie was conceived.

Re: Meaning of your name?

Hm, interesting. My name is Ana. (spelled like that) Not many people know how to pronounce it correctly, though, so I settled with having it pronounced as Anna. I still find it somewhat funny that it means Merciful.

I do have a version of middle name, though...it's not as official as middle name in Western countries. It's Vesna, it means "messenger" and it's also a name of Slavic goddess of spring.

That's very Unique...
Spoiler:

LORENZO Gender: Masculine
Usage: Italian, Spanish
Pronounced: lo-REN-tso (Italian), lo-REN-so (Spanish), lo-REN-tho (Spanish) [key]
Italian and Spanish form of Laurentius (see LAURENCE (1)). Lorenzo Medici, known as the Magnificent, was a ruler of Florence during the Renaissance. He was also a great patron of the arts who employed Leonardo da Vinci, Michelangelo, Botticelli and other famous artists.
JUDE Gender: Masculine
Usage: English, Biblical
Pronounced: JOOD [key]
Variant of JUDAS. It is used in many English versions of the New Testament to denote the second apostle named Judas, in order to distinguish him from Judas Iscariot. He was supposedly the author of the Epistle of Jude.

Found this pertaining to my last name:

The meaning of the surname MAIO is - one who was youthful looking; descendant of Matthew.

interesting, because people so often seem to think I'm younger than I am.
Until I joined the corps anyway, now they think I seem older.

and for the record, its pronounced my-oh, NOT MAY-OH!
I AM NOT associated with mayonaise in any way.

LOL. Odessa, could this be a clever form of identity theft,...just kiddin.:D

Seriously though, I've oftened pondered the meaning of my name, as I suppose we all do at one time or another. It's part of our curious nature, trying to find our purpose and all that. Well anyway, this thread inspired me to look it up.

Mine translates to "God is my judge", I guess that's why I get very upset when people try to judge me.

I won't go into details about my middle or last names but I can tell you this, they have a lot of defense, endurance and survival instincts in them.

Interesting name meaning. I'm glad this makes people think and look up what their names mean. I always wondered what kind of meanings I could dig up for my name.

Ah, that's cool to know, I guess that's why a favourite muscian of mine chose the name Joey DeMaio as his stage name.
