Do you read? Since my xbox is broken and my pc is about to be destroyed, I am going to pick up something i haven't done in a while, READ A Book. Not a sports page, or a magazine but a book. So i ask you do you read 'Books'. and is there anything good out there...(I was gonna read war and peace  |
Generally speaking, I love books. I can like many kinds of books, though mostly I read history. However, lately I just haven't had time to sit down and read besides what I have to for school. |
I do not read a lot but.. Read all the Dan Brown's books thought and they are insanely good IMO. I also really like Bernard Werber and especially Les Fourmis trilogy which is an awesome trilogy again in my opinion. Good reading! |
Yes. I simply love to read. Whenever I get that spare moment when I'm not working or doing something on the PC - I like to pick up a book, and read. I can usually read for a few hours solid if I'm motivated enough to do so, but it's usually whenever I'm bored, or just before bed at five in the morning haha. Some of my favourite books are from the Discworld series by Terry Pratchett - as they are simply amazing. Recently, I bought a new book for the first time in a very long while; Crime and Punishment was recommended to me by a close friend, so I figured I'd go and buy it - turned out to be one of the best books I've read' in my life. |
Yes. For much of my life I never really cared for books, they were something that had to be "dealt" with during the course of school. It has only been in the last couple of years that I've picked up reading as a hobby. It's gotten to the stage where I find myself reading a book more often than watching TV and even my gaming is starting to take a hit. I read history mostly, particularly the Second World War and the Medieval period. Books ftw! :) |
Journey To Ixtlan. |
I'm reading Cujo right now, for English. On the side I'm rereading the Doom that Came to Sarnath. |
Oh yes, I love to read. Interestingly enough, did we all know that Robert Jordan died not long ago? |
I used to read a lot, but I rarely find the time for it now. War and Peace is a wonderful book although a bit on the thick side, excellent choice. The 1xxx pages are fast to read, as far as I remember quite a bit faster than e.g. the much thinner The Brothers Karamazov due to how well written and interesting it is. The latter btw took me almost a month to read some five years ago, although it too is a very good book I can hardly recommend it unless you feel very motivated to read all of it. The one thing that buggered me about War and Peace was the fact that so much of it was in French, a language I hardly understand anything of, and the translations at the end of the fragile book (the only first part I found at the library was 80 years old, with pages falling out), so reading the first book was very impractical. Fortunately the two other books were 40 years newer, only a bit mouldy and with little French. |
I read lots of books. Everyone else I see my age hate books and want nothing to do with them, but not me. I love books. Though the only books I read that you guys would know about is Eragon... |
What are some that you assume 'we' would not know about? |
No no no no no no no no no no. Reading ? What does that mean ? I never heard of this before. Is this something new ? :rofl:Is that cheese ? |
I rarely read, but when I do its a really good story. I just finished The Outsiders and had to do a book report on it. |
Same.If I do read at all,and when I do it must be some good old sci-fi story. Thatīs the only thing that interests me right now. :bawl: |
I like to read especially book that films are based on. Silence of the lambs was a good film but the book was absolutely fantastic. But the only books that have ever made me read it all the way through without putting it down (6 hours non stop per book) was the Red Dwarf books. The series was funny but the books were hilarious and a lot darker. So yes I read a lot. Good poll btw :bows: |
I like to read i read almost everything i even sometimes read my schools textbook. im mostly interested in Warhammer 40k books. oh and Kendal YOUR PC GONNA GET DESTROYED THATS HORRIBLE!!!! |
I try and read as often as possible. I really don't have any preferences. Anything and everything from sciene fiction to school textbooks are enjoyable. I'm really thankful that my parents started reading to me as early as I can remember, and that there was never a lack of books in the house. |
Ok I like to read school textbooks from history. They are rather interesting, instead of some crap from Biology, some micro organisms ,bugs and all that stuff. I just donīt like in history textbooks the fact they the author wrote too much irelevant stuff.Like this(made up)-When king Tomislav was taking a bath...ZOMG who gives a rat ass about that ? I like battle parts and all that.Much more interesting. This is actually the most important and not everything else. |
Reading is an essentila part of life it is vital to your education no matter what book it is it teaches grammer and what not. I owe my exsesive love to read to J.K Rowling for writing the Harry Potter books of which sucked me deep into reading. |
I read all the time. I just got done reading up on Buddhism. |
I read leisurely during the summer, but can't find the time to do so during the school year. In fact, all I can read right now are chapter after chapter after chapter of semi-interesting, largely boring textbooks. Even then, I can barely bring myself to read them, and I've paid $300-400 on them (I technically should make use of them). I know I should read them but I just don't want to. |
I read... a lot. Recently read: Spook Country by William Gibson, The Gum Thief by Douglas Coupland, Kiln People by David Brin, Sandworms of Dune by Brian Herbert and Kevin J. Anderson, You Suck by Christopher Moore. Some of my favoured authors: - Hunter S. Thompson - Frank Herbert - Philip K. Dick - William Gibson - Chuck Palahniuk Kendall, what kind of genres are you into? |

I love to read. It's a bit of a passion of mine, books comfort me a great deal. Currently I am reading Les Miserables by Victor Hugo (it's easily becoming the best book I've ever read...it's amazing), Beloved by Toni Morrison, and Rant by Chuck Palahniuk. I recently finished Hamlet, which was extremely enjoyable, too. Othello is next. EDIT: Ryette <3 elevatormusic. What're your favorite Palahniuk books? |
Quote:
Survivor, Fight Club, Choke, Diary, Haunted, Lullaby, Stranger Than Fiction, Invisible Monsters. Don't have Portraits of Oregon or Rant. If you like Palahniuk, check out Douglas Coupland, somewhat similar styles but deals with slightly different aspects of pop culture. Shampoo Planet, Microserfs and Girlfriend in a Coma are all excellent Coupland books. Edit: Generation X is another excellent Coupland book. |

Anyway, I'll check this guy out after I finish the three I have now. ^_^ Thanks for the recommendation! |
Right now I don't read any book |
I only read books if I've got nothing better to do or if I have to. Especially with school involved. |
Tolkien is a great writer so is Larry Niven T.H. Whites The Once and future King is good so is Dune: The Machine Crusade Starship Troopers is good Beowulf is a good old work of english And the History textbook I have is surprisingly interesting |
If it is deep and a good read. than ill ove it |
I read a fair bit, but haven't had time to do much recently. I read fiction and non fiction alike. |
I don't know when the last time i actually read a book was.... lets just say its been a long time. Closest thing to a book i regularly read are magazines. |
I'm reading books all the time! I like dystopian novels best, so my favourites are like 1984 in some ways. And others.. I'm reading The Ragged Trousered Philanthropists at the moment, it's basically an argument for Socialism written as a fictional novel based in late 19th century/early 20th century Britain. I've got to review a few of my favourite books because I think everyone should know about them :) http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedi..._the_Stars.jpg ^ The City and the Stars is based billions of years in the future, where the Earth has aged and the oceans have dried up. There is, however, a completely self-sufficient city, which lives on enclosed from the outside world. The citizens of Diaspar are afraid to leave, except for one person who is unique in that he has never lived before (it's complicated, this is sci-fi). He leaves the city and makes contact with another quite different, society. My favourite book! http://www.frontlinebooks.co.uk/fron...0007181701.jpg ^Fahrenheit 451. The temperature at which paper burns. This is a world where books are banned, and the job of a 'fireman' is to start fires rather than stop them, particularly when it comes to burning books. The story follows Guy Montag, a fireman who grows increasingly disillusioned with his job and the society in which he lives in. It's sci-fi again, and my second favourite book. I like a lot of fantasy, sci-fi and horror, especially Stephen King with horror. I think reading is a very useful pastime, it can be fun but also rewarding at the same time. It generally makes you smarter and you don't have to watch any commercials! Ray Bradbury said he wrote Fahrenheit 451 because he felt that "television destroys interest in reading literature." |
Yes, I do read whenever I find a book worth reading. On that note, I'm waiting for Christopher Paolini to finish writing the third installment of the Inheritance trilogy. Until then, I'll amuse myself with whatever I have lying around, which at the present time happens to be "The World According to Clarkson" by...Jeremy Clarkson. |
Not often, but I am reading Hitman: Enemy Within |
2 Attachment(s) I read alot at home and at school. I like alot of fantasy and fiction. Espesially fiction with lots of action, mystery(not like detective stuff), humor, things that tend to get you thinking. I dont like books with pictures at all. Of course when you get to my age and above you usual dont care for pictures... I guess, thats what i always thought. Ok any way I dont like pics in books like every 5 pages it just dosent seem as fun for me:lookaround:. I just finished the book Warriors, Firestars Quest by Erin Hunter http://forums.filefront.com/attachme...1&d=1190851078 And today I started on John Flanagan's: Rangers Apprentice, the burning bridge. http://forums.filefront.com/attachme...1&d=1190851369 I have a love for reading. It expands your mind. |

No one replied. I died a little on the inside. Edit: Oh, and yes. A few books a week, typically (since I quit WoW I've nothing to do...). |
I bet he didn't finish it. =p |
Better of else I'll cut myself. Took me ages to read those books... |
Well, I do not think Eleven was enough of a redemption to warrant me getting too upset. Still would kind of like to know how he would salvage it all, though. |
Besides being in the second-highest level of English class available at uni here, I read a ton. I have a fav author [Bernard Cornwell, writes about pre-1800's fictional history] from which I've read over 30 books, and I know I've not read much of the "classics" but I'm looking for some Faulkner, I've heard it's hard to read and I like a literary challenge, ;). |
As I Lay Dying? Have been meaning to read it although, have never gotten around to it. |

I hated it. |
I read every night before I go to bed. Sometimes it's only for 20 minutes, but I always try and read a little each day. Every so often there will be droughts when looking for a new book to read, though, usually, I find one. Harry Potter got me initially into reading, and from there onto other fantasys. (Sci Fi is ok, but not my hobby) Wheel of Time......FUCK I DIDNT KNOW JORDAN WAS DEAD UNTIL THIS THREAD! :'( The last few books were kinda sub par and that still didn't stop me from reading them. Dark Tower series by Stephen King - By far the coolest series I've read. It has everything you could want, and still stays King-Esque. Sword of Truth - WIK. I'm on book 8 and I think there are 2 more. It's still surprisingly good, and has kept me from reading anything else. Game of Thrones - George R R Martin is a GAWD! His writing style is excellent and his overall plot is really top notch. I've never been able to see where the plot is going. He will do whatever he wants to any character and it really helps the story along, because you know the top characters are not some invincible gods that have the world at their will. Pretty realistic in it's sense of Feudalistic rule. Nice balance of intrigue and war. 5th book should be out this year. I read slow and take my time with books, so it isn't a day long thing for me, but more like a week, usually. Each book in those series is between 400 - 1000 pages. It really adds up. Nearly every book I read is 400 + pages or else I don't feel it's worth the time to sit down and read. Anyway, yeah. |
I read quite a bit, though I can't stand reading books based on *real* stuff, so everything I read is fantasy or sci-fi. I've mostly read Warcraft (Richard Knaak is a great author), Diablo, some random books such as Timeline, Fires of Coventry, Future War, and am beginning to read everything Warhammer (Dan Abnett is awesome). |
