All I'm trying to say is whenever you take that kind of earing off. you should really be careful not to get it snagged. I know some people who had those put on, And whenever they take those things off!, Even a simple thing as combing their hair becomes tricky. And yes they say that you need to take it off from time to time so's your ear won't resemble Dumbo's.
I don't have peircings but I may get some of those cool hole earrings, forget what their called.
these things
I have one, 5mm wide. This one looks like 10mm, though. 8 years ago i had one,yet it shrunk to my current 5mm. Basically it took 8 years to the hole in my ear to shrunk from 10mm to 5mm. 8 more years & it will be 2 or 3mm wide, if i'll pull out (gently ) my current piercing.

I think anything up to 15-17mm can grow back enough to be completely repaired, given time.
Well yeah, but you're still lying there while someone menaces your middle with a piercing - uh - 'thingumy.' Rendering yourself that helpless to someone you hardly know doesn't make a whole lot of sense to me.
