Hey, he could start a business with this idea; he could be like the world's first human safe. A bit messy perhaps, but the last place anybody is going to think of looking for your valuables is up somebody's arse.

But seriously though, you're working as a cleaner, a depressing, thankless job with low pay and crap conditions, and you suddenly have the good fortune to find 126 precious stones. You don't have a rucksack, nor do you have any hidden compartments built into your body like the Robocop, and you're not likely to risk just letting them jangle around in your pockets. You can't stick them in your mouth in case you need to talk, and it would be far too dangerous and time consuming to swallow them, so that only leaves one place - makes sense to me! Of course, I wouldn't then proceed to walk past a security scanner with them in there... I feel sorry for the security men, really. Aren't they like... the ones who had to dig them out? Ugh, and I hope they don't end up in jewellery; I'll never be able to walk past a jewellery store again without laughing.

I never thought of that... what are they going to do? Return them to the store? I don't think anybody would even dream of touching them let alone buy them. They should just let him keep them for all the trouble and pain he has gone through trying to steal them... poor guy :vikki:

Well I guess they'll be kept as evidence, at least until he's tried. Do they even have trials over there? I don't know the Congolese legal system well enough to say how long they'll keep it after that before returning them to their previous owners. Given the amount of corruption within the DRC I wouldn't be surprised if they mysteriously disappeared shortly after the trial, and once they get sold they could be used for anything. Even your future engagement ring! Just think about that in years to come when you're buying that special somebody that special ring - it could have been in a very, very dark place before being fitted onto that golden hoop...

Sounds rather painfull but unless he was a woman he has very few alternatives, you try smuggling a diamond using your mouth or ears... hmm that's it! He could have smuggled them out as piercings! Nobody would notice!

Seriously though, if you are desprerate to become rich or atleast less poor you will go to any means to achief this goal. See here...

I think that they should let him keep them... He's probably felt enough pain as it is, and he still has to um... get them back out again...

Makes sense to me, except for the getting caught part. Think about how much money the average Congolese makes. How much is that, compared to $5000?
